Also purchasing jackfruit in the southern region of our country, traders there said that the current price of Thai jackfruit is also quite low. They are currently purchasing at the garden at prices ranging from 3,000 VND to 12,000 VND/kg.
A month ago, Thai jackfruit was purchased for over 20,000 VND/kg, but now that other fruits are in harvest season, the price of Thai jackfruit has dropped sharply. However, they buy all of it to export to China.
Tien Giang farmers grow lotus for good income
Tan Phuoc district, Tien Giang province is located in a low-lying area with acidic alum soil, located in the Dong Thap Muoi area that is often flooded, so it is suitable for lotus plants to grow well.
For many years, people in Tan Phuoc district have been intercropping two rice crops and one lotus crop for quite high profits. Lotus is mainly grown in Thanh Hoa commune with a current area of 4 to 4.5 hectares. However, every year, during the flood season from June to September, the area increases to about 40 hectares. The reason for the increase in area is that this year aquaculture is ineffective, so people have switched to growing lotus.
Lotus is a short-term crop, with few pests and diseases, and low care costs. From planting to harvest is about 2 months, the harvest time is from 2 to 6 months, the care cost is about 10 to 12 million VND/ha. The yield from lotus shoots is about 3 to 4 tons/crop/ha (4-month crop), after deducting costs, people still make a profit of 30 to 40 million VND/crop/ha.
Farmers in Hoa Dong hamlet, Thanh Hoa commune, Tan Phuoc district said that with 2 hectares of intercropping lotus (2 rice crops, 1 lotus crop), they harvest an average of about 100 kg of lotus root per day, with a selling price of 20 to 30 thousand VND/kg.
Young areca nut prices increased from 5,000 - 12,000 VND/kg
Compared to more than a month ago, the price of young areca nuts in Can Tho City and many provinces in the Mekong Delta has increased by at least 5,000-12,000 VND/kg and is at its highest level in many months.
