Last week, coffee prices in the Central Highlands increased by VND1,000-2,200/kg compared to the previous week. Dak Lak and Dak Nong had the highest increase, reaching VND2,200/kg.
In Gia Lai, coffee prices also increased by VND2,200/kg during the week, while Lam Dong only recorded an increase of VND1,000/kg.
According to information from the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association (Vicofa), Vietnam's coffee output in the 2024-2025 crop year is estimated at 26.5 million bags, lower than the 27 million bags of the previous crop year. This output is also down from the forecast in December 2024, showing signs of a decline in supply.
Not only in Vietnam, the global coffee supply has also been severely affected, especially due to the slow harvest in Brazil. This disruption has pushed the price of Robusta coffee on the London floor up nearly 70% over the past year, clearly reflecting the scarcity of supply in the world market.
Pepper prices remain unchanged
Information updated at 5:00 a.m. on March 17, 2025 shows that domestic pepper prices remain unchanged from the previous session. Currently, the average purchase price in key areas is still 158,400 VND/kg.
Pepper price details in each locality: Gia Lai maintains the price at 158,000 VND/kg, stable compared to the previous trading session.
Similarly, pepper prices in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc also remained unchanged, with traders purchasing at 158,000 VND/kg.
Dak Lak and Dak Nong, after decreasing in the previous session, are still maintaining high levels, with purchasing prices in these two provinces reaching 159,000 VND/kg.
According to the International Pepper Community (IPC), world pepper prices at 5:00 a.m. on March 17, 2025 continued to remain stable, with no adjustment compared to the previous session.
Specific information: Lampung black pepper price (Indonesia) is currently at 7,265 USD/ton, while Muntok white pepper price is listed at 10,252 USD/ton.
In Malaysia, the pepper market continues to be stable, with ASTA black pepper prices recorded at USD 9,800/ton, while ASTA white pepper prices are currently at USD 12,300/ton.
Brazil also recorded pepper prices with little fluctuation, currently fluctuating around 6,900 USD/ton.
Vietnam's pepper export prices have recently decreased slightly. Currently, the export price of 500 g/l black pepper is at 7,000 USD/ton, 550 g/l at 7,200 USD/ton, and white pepper is traded at 10,000 USD/ton.
Last week, domestic pepper prices decreased by 1,000 - 3,000 VND/kg compared to the previous week, when prices fluctuated from 159,000 - 162,000 VND/kg.
Dak Nong is the locality with the sharpest decrease, up to 3,000 VND/kg. In Dak Lak, pepper prices also decreased by 2,000 VND/kg compared to last week.
In addition, other areas such as Gia Lai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai all recorded a decrease of VND 1,000/kg.
According to the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the pepper harvest in Dak Nong is currently taking place vigorously, but farmers still tend to hold back their products, reducing supply in the market. Meanwhile, in Dak Lak - the second largest pepper growing area in the country, the harvest is expected to begin in the next 2-3 weeks, which could create pressure on supply in the short term.
According to VTV, pepper prices are currently hovering around VND160,000/kg, the highest level in nearly a decade. In the export market, pepper prices are also maintained at around USD7,000 - 7,200/ton, depending on the type.
With this price, pepper growers not only have higher profits but also have the motivation to invest in and take care of pepper gardens, thereby improving production efficiency as well as ensuring stability in business operations. The high price also makes many farmers decide to keep their goods, contributing to reducing supply pressure right during the harvest season.
