This model, in addition to contributing to protecting the ecological environment, has a consumer market and has a selling price that is double that of conventional production. Mr. Do Duc Thien, Director of Nam Cuong Cooperative, said that in the 2022 crop (summer-autumn crop), with an area of ​​nearly 1.3 hectares, the cooperative harvested 4 tons of rice (2.7 tons of rice). The quality of the rice is assessed by customers as much more delicious than other types of rice using the same variety on the market. The price of organic rice is twice as high as that of other types of rice, bringing joy, encouragement and motivation to the members of Nam Cuong Cooperative.

Organic rice opens doors to international markets

For the European market, the quality standards for exported rice must also ensure factors such as humidity, milled rice yield, and size, specifically: High quality rice, odorless, containing a maximum moisture content of 13%, whole grain milled rice yield of 63% by weight (with a 3% broken grain ratio), along with criteria on food safety, pesticide residues, genetic modification (GMO), etc.

Sharing about Vietnam's rice export opportunities, Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of AI Technology Application and Digital Commerce, said: Currently, Vietnam has many rice brands chosen by world consumers, many local enterprises and cooperatives are gradually converting to the organic rice commercial production model according to the USDA/EU standards of the US and Europe. However, the issue of expanding, developing the model and promoting product consumption at many enterprises and cooperatives is not really effective. Because organic production requires the support of associated enterprises, support for input materials, technical processes, and product consumption to achieve the expected economic efficiency.

However, behind the healthy organic rice grains, full of essence and nutrition for the body, is the complete standardization and specialization of the cultivation and care process from land, water sources, fertilizers, and even the harvesting process.

For organic rice, rice must be grown on standard, treated, unpolluted land, far from industrial zones, hospitals, waste, no chemical residues or heavy metals... If the field has previously used chemical fertilizers, it must be treated by applying organic microbial fertilizers for at least 3 consecutive crops. At the same time, the soil source must be rich in nutrients so that the rice has the best conditions to grow and develop. With land with favorable climatic conditions, organic rice will be produced that is not only safe but also has high nutritional value.

Not only is there a difference in the quality of the soil, but also in the irrigation water source, there is a complete contrast between the water pumped from rivers, streams, ponds, and lakes in conventional rice fields compared to the clean, treated, and unpolluted water supply in organic rice fields.

To ensure this, both the land and water will be inspected before and during the growing process by leading organic organizations such as the US USDA and the European EU.

Organic rice prioritizes product quality, each organic rice field must comply with the process of saying no to pesticides, stimulants, genetic modification and chemical fertilizers. Instead, organic rice growers will apply natural farming methods, using organic and microbiological fertilizers to ensure safety. This entire process will be periodically monitored to avoid errors.

In particular, some organic rice fields also apply the natural shrimp square model, 6 months of rice cultivation, 6 months of shrimp farming. Taking advantage of tidal water to kill pests. When the rice is harvested, the stubble will be used to feed shrimp, and in return, shrimp manure will be a source of nutrients for rice cultivation. Organic rice is prioritized for development in terms of quality and deliciousness, providing high nutritional content.

Organic rice will be harvested in season, 2 crops per year, not out of season, the finished rice is not treated with bleach, colorants, fragrances, preservatives. The rice will go through a safety inspection and certification process, meeting all organic standards before reaching consumers. This not only ensures safety but also helps the rice retain its abundant nutrients and delicious flavor in every bowl of cooked rice.
