On the morning of April 11, the domestic rice market recorded mixed fluctuations. While raw rice prices showed signs of a slight decrease, sticky rice and bran prices increased slightly compared to yesterday. Transactions in many localities in the Mekong Delta are gradually becoming active again, especially for fragrant rice varieties.
In An Giang and Dong Thap, the amount of rice arriving is quite stable. Warehouses continue to buy regularly, but prices generally do not change much. In An Cu (Tien Giang), supply is lower, purchasing activities are slow and prices remain at the same level.
The price of raw rice OM 5451 decreased by 50 VND/kg, currently fluctuating between 9,600 and 9,750 VND/kg. Meanwhile, other rice varieties such as OM 380, IR 504 and OM 18 remained stable. Finished rice IR 504 is currently at 7,600 - 7,800 VND/kg, while Nang Hoa 9 rice fluctuates between 6,550 - 6,750 VND/kg.
At retail markets in An Giang, rice prices remain unchanged. Regular rice is sold for VND15,000 to VND16,000 per kilogram, while fragrant rice ranges from VND18,000 to VND22,000 per kilogram. Some special rice varieties such as Nang Nhen are offered at the highest price, around VND28,000 per kilogram.
The glutinous rice market also recorded a slight increase during the day. The price of IR 4625 (fresh) glutinous rice increased by VND 100, reaching VND 7,700 - 7,900/kg. Three-month dried glutinous rice remained stable at VND 9,600 - 9,700/kg. This is considered a positive signal in the context of supply in many areas showing signs of recovery.
Prices of by-products in the market today generally remained stable. Of which, the price of bran increased by 150 VND, currently fluctuating from 5,750 to 5,950 VND/kg. Broken rice 3 - 4 remained at the price of 6,700 - 6,800 VND/kg, while fragrant broken rice fluctuated from 7,100 to 7,300 VND/kg. In particular, rice husk continued to be traded at around 800 - 900 VND/kg.
Regarding domestic rice prices, the market in many localities in the Mekong Delta region has begun to improve. In Bac Lieu, rice is heavily deposited, the price of fragrant rice remains stable and the price of ST rice continues to increase. In An Giang, farmers are offering higher prices, but the remaining amount of rice is not much, causing transactions to be quite slow.
In Can Tho, although supply is quite good, demand is weak, causing buying and selling to slow down. Long An recorded a slight increase in rice prices, but purchasing power is still not high.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, rice prices in the Mekong Delta region today are mostly stable. OM 5451 rice is currently fluctuating between 6,200 and 6,400 VND/kg, Dai Thom 8 rice is priced between 6,800 and 7,000 VND/kg. OM 18 rice (fresh) is traded between 6,700 and 6,900 VND/kg. Other varieties such as Nang Hoa 9 remain at 6,550 - 6,750 VND/kg, while IR 50404 and OM 380 (fresh) fluctuate between 5,800 and 6,000 VND/kg.
In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices are currently quite high. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 25% broken rice is exported at a price of 370 USD/ton. 5% broken rice is priced at up to 399 USD/ton. This price is higher than competitors such as Thailand at 394 USD/ton, Pakistan at 391 USD/ton and India at 376 USD/ton.
In the Philippines, rice supplies are showing signs of decline. According to Philstar, citing data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the country’s rice inventory as of March 1 reached 1.61 million tons. Although up about 18% compared to the same period last year, it is down nearly 20% compared to the 2.01 million tons recorded in February.
This is also the lowest inventory level in a year, since March 2024, when it was only 1.37 million tons. The amount of rice stored in households now stands at about 784,500 tons, up nearly 13% from the previous year. Meanwhile, the National Food Authority (NFA)'s stock has skyrocketed, from just over 41,000 tons last year to nearly 300,000 tons.
In contrast, the commercial sector recorded a sharp decline. As of March 1, rice reserves in this sector decreased by 16.3% to only about 527,780 tons.
