According to EVNNPT, at 9:27 p.m. on August 31, 2024, at the Cai Lay 220kV transformer station (belonging to Power Transmission Company 4 - National Power Transmission Corporation), a transformer failure occurred.

Immediately after the incident, Power Transmission Company 4 separated the transformer from the system to ensure safe operation of the national power transmission system; at the same time, notified the fire police in Cai Lay town to coordinate fire fighting, cordoned off areas to ensure safety to hand over to local fire fighting units to work and restore systems not affected by the incident.

At the time of the incident, preliminary information indicated that lightning struck the 22kV underground cable tower outside the station, then spread to Cai Lay transformer station, causing a 110kV transformer failure at Cai Lay transformer station. At this time, the area was experiencing heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Immediately after the incident, the fire prevention and fighting police force of Tien Giang Provincial Police, Cai Lay Town Police coordinated with Power Transmission Company 4, Southern Power System Control Center, and Southern Power Corporation to handle the incident.

The incident did not cause any human casualties. EVNNPT is coordinating with the Southern Power System Control Center and the Southern Power Corporation to restore power supply to the area.

In addition, EVNNPT has mobilized backup transformers for replacement as soon as possible to ensure the safety of the power system.

Cai Lay 220kV transformer station is located in Cai Lay town, Tien Giang province, and was put into operation in 1997. The station has 2 220kV transformers (AT1 and AT2), with a total capacity of 375MVA; 2 110kV transformers (T3 and T4) with a total capacity of 80MVA.
