In addition to developing new power source projects, the electricity sector has continuously invested in new and upgraded transmission systems across the province. Along with releasing capacity for factories, the power transmission grid has met high-quality supply for production and consumption; at the same time, effectively transferring power between regions.
Technical staff of Thanh Hoa 500kV Transformer Station use a thermal scanner to monitor the operating status of the equipment.
Overcoming many difficulties in site clearance, at the end of October 2024, the 220 kV Nghi Son Economic Zone (KKTNS) transformer station and connecting lines were officially completed. With a scale of 2 transformers with a capacity of 250 MVA, the project will contribute to ensuring the N-1 criteria, improving the reliability and safety of power supply to the regional grid. After completion, the project has increased the power supply to the load of Thanh Hoa province, especially the KKTNS, which is experiencing high electricity growth. Previously, with the importance and urgency of the project in meeting the electricity demand for the operation of Nghi Son Steel Rolling Mill No. 2, Vietnam Electricity issued a directive resolution, and the Power Transmission Corporation also launched a 30-day and night campaign to mobilize all forces to implement the project.
To continue to meet the increasing load demand in the coming time in the Eastern region, in December 2024, the National Power Transmission Corporation continued to start the Sam Son 220 kV Transformer Station Project and the Thanh Hoa - Sam Son 220 kV connection line. The project has a scale of building a new Sam Son 220 kV Transformer Station with a capacity of 2 x 250 MVA including 4 220 kV bays and 10 110 kV bays. The Thanh Hoa - Sam Son 220 kV connection line section builds a new 2-circuit line connecting from the Thanh Hoa 500 kV Transformer Station to the Sam Son 220 kV Transformer Station with a length of more than 40km. After completion, the project will help increase power supply for the load of Thanh Hoa province, especially Sam Son city and neighboring areas.
According to the Central Power Project Management Board - the investor's representative, Sam Son City in particular and the East of Thanh Hoa province in general are identified as dynamic economic areas with high demand for electricity growth. To meet the investment schedule, the unit will strictly comply with technical and regulatory procedures in construction work; at the same time, well manage occupational safety and hygiene, environment, ensure construction quality, with the goal of striving to complete energization in 2025.
Deputy Director of Thanh Hoa Power Transmission Nguyen Ngoc Thang said: "Currently, the power transmission system of 220 kV and above has been invested in synchronously and modernly. Many transformer stations are operated according to the remote operation model and are operating reliably under the command of power dispatch centers, making an important contribution to inter-regional power regulation activities. In 2024, the total power flow transmitted through the 220 kV and 500 kV power lines and transformer stations managed by Thanh Hoa Power Transmission will reach 30.8 billion kWh. The load power flow for Thanh Hoa province alone will reach 7.27 billion kWh, an increase of nearly 11% compared to 2023. With the additional system of transformer stations and power lines from the 220 kV Nam Sum - Nong Cong lines and the 500 kV line circuit 3 already in operation, it is forecasted that in 2025 the total power flow transmitted through Thanh Hoa will continue to increase, ensuring supply. reliable electricity for production and socio-economic development of the province and region".
Effectively serving the needs of socio-economic development and people's lives, especially supplying electricity to key industrial loads in the province, the 110 kV and below power grid managed by Thanh Hoa Electricity Company currently has 28 110 kV transformer stations and 67 power lines with a total length of 1,084.78 km; 251 medium-voltage lines with a total length of 7,453.31 km and 12,947.8 km of low-voltage lines, ensuring safe and stable operation to meet the electricity needs of more than 851,000 customers. To meet the electricity supply needs of Thanh Hoa region, in the period of 2021-2025, the Northern Power Corporation has also invested in 35 110 kV power grid projects with a total investment of VND 3,465 billion; Of which, 14 projects have been completed and 21 projects are under implementation. In addition, the unit has also implemented 107 medium and low voltage grid projects, with a total capital of VND 985.7 billion. To date, 72 grid projects have been completed and 3 projects are preparing for investment.
Thanh Hoa Electricity Company is proposing that the Northern Power Corporation continue to prioritize capital to invest in renovating the received power grid to improve power quality and reduce power loss, improve power supply reliability, reduce low-voltage grid losses to below 5%, and no longer have customers with low voltage; at the same time, direct relevant units to speed up progress and complete ongoing 110 kV projects as well as invest in building new 110 kV transformer stations.
Thanh Hoa is currently the 8th province in the country in attracting foreign investment capital, with 173 valid projects and a total registered investment capital of about 15 billion USD. With the load demand of factories about to come into operation and the attraction and interest of new investors, the Northern Power Corporation forecasts that the electricity load in Thanh Hoa will continue to grow by about 10%/year. In the immediate future, some areas will have large and increasing electricity loads, concentrated in localities with projects and factories planned to come into operation, such as: Thanh Hoa City - Sam Son City - Quang Xuong District (region 1); Nghi Son Town - Nong Cong - Nhu Thanh - Nhu Xuan (region 2); Bim Son Town - Hoang Hoa - Hau Loc - Nga Son - Ha Trung (region 3); Thieu Hoa - Trieu Son - Yen Dinh - Vinh Loc - Thuong Xuan - Tho Xuan...
In the long term, according to the Thanh Hoa Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2045, in addition to the NSZ and Na Meo Border Gate Economic Zone, Thanh Hoa will have up to 19 industrial parks and 126 industrial clusters. The continued investment and upgrading of power transmission systems needs to continue to be planned by the electricity sector, as well as the active participation of local authorities so that power grid projects in the area are completed and put into operation on schedule.
