On the afternoon of December 23, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a conference to review the work in 2024 and deploy tasks for the industry and trade sector in 2025.

Attending the Conference to review the work in 2024 and deploy tasks for the Industry and Trade sector in 2025 were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Mr. Vu Hong Thanh - Chairman of the Economic Committee of the National Assembly; Mr. Ngo Dong Hai - Member of the Central Executive Committee of the 13th Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department; Mr. Do Trong Hung - Deputy Head of the Central Organization Department... and representatives of relevant ministries, branches and units.

Also attending were leaders of localities, Departments of Industry and Trade and Market Management Departments of 63 provinces and cities...

In 2024, the socio-economic development of the country in general and the industry and trade sector in particular will take place in the context of the world continuing to have major and unpredictable fluctuations with many opportunities and challenges intertwined. The global economy continues to face challenges from weak growth and slow inflation, the tight monetary policy from previous years will continue to be maintained until the end of the third quarter before being partially loosened, the global supply chain and key transport flows are always at risk of disruption and interruption. The trend of deglobalization is rising, protectionist policies are reappearing in many countries in different forms.

Reporting at the Conference, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVN Dang Hoang An said: Regarding construction investment, EVN has many bright spots. This year, the Group has disbursed 12,892 billion VND, exceeding the plan by 10.8%. In addition, according to Mr. Dang Hoang An, the results related to the 500kV line have been clearly demonstrated. EVN also put into operation Unit 2 of Yaly Hydropower Plant, contributing 360MW to the country.

216 projects, 4,000km of power lines and 17,000MVA of new transformer station capacity have been energized this year. EVN thanks the direction of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the State Steering Committee for key energy projects as well as the support of localities ,” Mr. Dang Hoang An emphasized.

In addition, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVN said that after many years, the financial situation this year has also improved, EVN's economic and technical indicators are still maintained in the top 4 of ASEAN, especially the reliability of power supply, the average customer power outage index has decreased significantly compared to previous years.

In addition, in terms of customer service, more than 98% of customers do not use cash and 12 electricity services are completely online, labor productivity increased by 9.9%.

Mr. Dang Hoang An affirmed that EVN has successfully produced 500kV transformers. Vietnam is still the only country and EVN is also the only enterprise that can manufacture 500kV transformers in Southeast Asia.

In 2025, EVN will focus on key tasks such as: Ensuring electricity supply for faster socio-economic development. At the same time, continuing to maintain the investment speed, the 2025 plan is 109 trillion VND, including very large projects such as the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant expansion that must be completed; Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant with a capacity of 1,200 MW must be connected to the grid before September 2, 2025; the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line must also be completed by December 2025...

EVN will continue to implement solutions to ensure increased labor productivity, digital transformation and implement the Central Government's direction on streamlining the apparatus to ensure efficiency and effectiveness, ” Mr. Dang Hoang An emphasized.

Also reporting at the Conference, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang informed that up to now, the industry and trade sector has achieved many positive results. In particular, the scale of industrial production has recovered quickly, widely and continuously expanded, playing a driving role, leading the overall growth of the economy. The industrial production index in the first 11 months of 2024 increased by 8.4% over the same period last year (the same period in 2023 increased by 0.9%), the highest increase in the period from 2020 to present.

With the current growth rate, it is expected that the industrial production index will increase by over 8% in 2024, exceeding the set plan, ” Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang stated.

With the achieved results, the Industry and Trade sector is moving steadily into 2025 with many fluctuations forecast. In particular, the instability of the global economy affects Vietnam's growth prospects in the coming time.

Domestically, Vietnam's economy has maintained macroeconomic and social stability in the context of complicated geopolitical and economic fluctuations in the world, with many difficulties and challenges, which will continue to create favorable conditions for attracting investment and promoting production and business in the coming time.

In the above context, the Ministry of Industry and Trade sets specific targets for 2025. Accordingly, the industrial production index strives to increase by about 9-10% compared to 2024; goods exports strive to increase by about 12% compared to 2024; total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue strives to increase by about 10% compared to 2024.

In addition, the total electricity production and import of the whole system is estimated to reach 347.5 billion kWh, an increase of about 12.2% compared to 2024. Of which, the total power source capacity (excluding rooftop solar power) is 82,097 MW, an increase of about 6.2% compared to 2024.
