Đảng Cộng SảnĐảng Cộng Sản13/02/2024

Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh said that in 2023, the world situation will have many complicated developments, global tourism will only recover at nearly 90% compared to the pre-pandemic period, however, Asia will recover the slowest, reaching only 62%. In the country, the socio-economic situation tends to recover positively, but there are still many difficulties and challenges.

In the context of many difficulties, the efforts of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism have contributed to the overall success of the tourism industry in 2023: Welcoming 12.6 million international visitors, exceeding the initial target by 57% and achieving the adjusted target (12-13 million). Domestic visitors reached 108 million, exceeding the 2023 plan by 6%. Total tourism revenue is estimated at 678 trillion VND, exceeding the 2023 plan by 4.3%.

Recovery efforts

In 2023, Vietnam tourism affirmed its position as one of the world's top favorite destinations. With continuous efforts in communication, promotion, product development, service quality improvement, travel facilitation, etc., Vietnam has been honored to receive a series of prestigious awards from prestigious international organizations around the world and has been honored and praised by international media many times as the world's top attractive destination.

Notably, Vietnam was honored as the “World’s Leading Heritage Destination” for the fourth time and “Asia’s Leading Destination” for the fifth consecutive time. With its efforts to build favorable mechanisms and policies for the tourism industry and promote the strong recovery of the entire industry, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism was awarded the title of “Asia’s Leading Tourism Management Agency” for the fourth time.

Along with that, there are many categories of the World's and Asia's leading Awards for Vietnamese corporations, businesses, and brands in many fields such as travel, hotels, entertainment, aviation...

Not only has it been honored to receive many prestigious international awards, international media agencies, magazines, and travel websites have also repeatedly praised and honored Vietnamese tourism. This has contributed to promoting and spreading the beauty of nature, culture, cuisine, and Vietnamese people to a large number of tourists around the world.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung commented that in 2023, the international and domestic context still has many challenges. However, with the close leadership and direction of the Government and the Prime Minister, the efforts of the Ministry, the activeness of ministries, branches, localities, and the support of the people and the business community, Vietnamese tourism has achieved some outstanding results.

A number of policies have been issued, contributing to removing barriers, promoting tourism recovery and development. Accordingly, mechanisms and policies to support tourism development and businesses continue to be reviewed, adjusted, supplemented and issued promptly. Issues to facilitate international tourists have changed dramatically, especially immigration and visa procedures. Tourism products have been renewed, become more attractive and more competitive. Many new destinations have been invested in, and the system of technical facilities serving tourism has been improved.

Tourism is placed in the overall development with foreign culture, preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage, sports activities, and promoting investment and trade. Tourism events are organized with focus, key points, attractiveness, and spread, and the awareness of the whole society about the role, position, and contribution of tourism has changed positively.

However, Vietnam's tourism still faces many difficulties and challenges. The number of international visitors has recovered relatively slowly compared to other countries in the region. Meanwhile, connecting and exploiting new and potential markets is still slow and facing many difficulties. Connecting and restoring the frequency of international flights as before COVID-19 is still slow. Destination management in some places is still not drastic, not promptly handling environmental pollution, waste, and "ripping off" tourists... affecting the image and brand of Vietnam's tourism. Communication, updating, and promotion of information about new regulations are still limited and untimely in international source markets due to the lack of a national tourism promotion office, and lack of close coordination with representative agencies abroad...

Actively promote and advertise to welcome 18 million international visitors

In 2024, the Vietnamese tourism industry aims to welcome 18 million international visitors, serve 110 million domestic visitors, and earn an estimated total revenue from tourism of VND850,000 billion. To achieve this goal, the tourism industry needs to make efforts to synchronously implement solutions to promote policy making, state management in specialized fields, and strengthen tourism promotion activities...

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in 2024, Vietnamese tourism will participate in the ITB Fair in Berlin (Germany), the International Travel Fair in Korea, the ASEAN - China Fair, the China International Travel Fair (CITM), the World Travel Fair (WTM)... Along with that are programs to introduce Vietnamese tourism abroad, expected in Australia, the US, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan (China), India...

Vietnam National Administration of Tourism welcomes international business delegations, press, and influencers in some key tourism markets to conduct tourism surveys, including Famtrip delegations, press from China, Taiwan (China), ASEAN, Europe, Australia, Korea, Japan, etc.

According to the forecast of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), international tourism activities may fully recover by the end of 2024, equal to the level of 2019. However, the recovery rate is uneven across regions. The needs of international tourists are constantly changing, requiring increasingly high product quality, experience, diversity and uniqueness. The trend of applying information technology, artificial intelligence and digital transformation will promote the formation of new ways of tourism..., requiring promotion and advertising to be innovated to suit reality./.
