Switzerland's tourism industry continues to receive positive news, as statistics show that visitors to the country last year spent a total of 16.6 billion Swiss francs (nearly 18.5 billion USD), a sharp increase compared to 2021, although it has not yet returned to pre-Covid-19 levels.
Tourist spending in Switzerland is expected to increase by nearly 50% in 2022 compared to 2021, according to a report by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office. This figure is also similar to the hotel industry's previously announced figures after recording a record 38.2 million overnight stays at hotels in Switzerland.
Not only are foreigners visiting Switzerland and spending a lot, but Swiss people are also spending more abroad in 2022 than in 2021. Earlier this year, many experts predicted a continued recovery in the tourism industry with a large number of visitors from Asia in 2023 and beyond.
