On March 19, Ninh Thuan General Hospital announced that it had just received and successfully treated a pregnant woman in severe shock due to postpartum hemorrhage (this is one of the top 5 dangerous obstetric complications).
Specifically, the pregnant woman N. (41 years old, living in Ninh Son district, Ninh Thuan province) was pregnant for the 6th time and gave birth naturally at a medical facility. Immediately after giving birth, the pregnant woman had massive vaginal bleeding, fell into a state of severe blood loss shock, and was urgently transferred to Ninh Thuan General Hospital.
The patient was subsequently diagnosed with postpartum uterine atony, leading to hemorrhage, hypovolemic shock, and coagulopathy.
Identifying this as a critical case, the medical team of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Ninh Thuan General Hospital closely coordinated with the Department of Hematology - Blood Transfusion and the Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation Surgery to perform a total hysterectomy to control bleeding, provide intensive resuscitation, support respiration and circulation; transfused more than 30 units of blood and blood products to compensate for the amount of blood lost.
After many hours of intensive care, the mother's condition gradually stabilized and her vital signs improved. The patient is now out of danger and is continuing to be monitored and cared for post-operatively.
