The Resolution of the 20th Quang Ngai Provincial Party Congress identified promoting tourism development as one of the key tasks for the 2020 - 2025 period.

To concretize this Resolution, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province builds and implements the Project on tourism development in Quang Ngai province to 2025, with a vision to 2030.

According to the report of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DOCST), after 3 years of implementing the Project, tourism products in the province have been gradually diversified, with sea and island tourism continuing to play a key role.

In particular, community tourism, agricultural and rural tourism models have developed strongly in some localities. Thanks to that, the total number of visitors to the province has continuously increased.

If in 2022, the total number of visitors to Quang Ngai reached 650,000, with revenue reaching 700 billion VND, then by 2023, the total number of visitors reached more than 1 million, with revenue reaching 1,018 billion VND. In 2024, the total number of visitors is estimated to reach over 1.4 million, with revenue reaching more than 1,434 billion VND.

Although there has been positive progress, overall, the development of Quang Ngai tourism industry is still not commensurate with its potential, has not created a breakthrough, and still lacks tourism products that create a unique brand.

The main attractions are raw landscapes, the transportation infrastructure is still inconvenient, affecting the connection of tourism products with tourists...

Community tourism, agricultural and rural tourism activities are still seasonal, lack connectivity, and the role of the community in tourism development has not been effectively promoted.

Unfavorable weather during the rainy season and too few flights to Chu Lai airport make it difficult to attract tourists to the potential market in the North.

The province does not have a specific mechanism for the tourism industry, so it has not attracted many investors to develop diverse tourism products, leading to difficulty in creating a perfect set of tour products.

In particular, Quang Ngai has not yet attracted investors to develop high-class, quality tourism products; technical facilities are not yet synchronized, small in scale, and lack 3-5 star accommodation facilities.

Lack of supporting tourism services, entertainment areas, shopping areas, and cuisine; no pedestrian streets, night markets, and other services to retain tourists and increase their spending.

According to a representative of the Quang Ngai Tourism Association, one of the solutions to promote tourism in the coming time is to focus on selecting appropriate market segments.

Specifically, strongly develop the domestic tourism market, focusing on market segments with tourists for relaxation, entertainment, weekend breaks and shopping; agricultural eco-tourism; promote attracting international tourists...

Meanwhile, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Quang Ngai province Nguyen Quoc Huy Hoang said that in the digital transformation of Quang Ngai tourism, it is necessary to promote the connection between state management agencies and tourism businesses, ensuring connectivity and unity to jointly build a data system, promotion programs, and connect tourism more effectively.

“It is necessary to continue to improve smart tourism applications, update data on destinations, accommodation facilities, and tourism products. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism acts as a focal point to share tourism information synchronously across the country, linking Quang Ngai's tourism chain with the region. At the same time, move towards forming a Quang Ngai Provincial Tourism Information Portal to provide complete and comprehensive information and utilities for tourists," Mr. Hoang shared.

Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province Nguyen Tien Dung frankly admitted that Quang Ngai tourism development is not commensurate with the potential, advantages, and opportunities of nature, people, and cultural and historical traditions of Quang Ngai.

Mr. Dung said that in the coming time, the province will continue to promote the implementation of the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on tourism development.
