Construction of 2 sections of Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 is expected to start in the first quarter of 2025.

Two sections of the Ring Road 2 Project, Ho Chi Minh City, with a total investment of more than VND 13,871 billion, are expected to start construction in the first quarter of 2025.

The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) has just issued Document No. 3418/BQLDAGT-PPP reporting to the City People's Committee on the implementation plan of Ring Road 2, the section from Phu Huu Bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap Street (section 1) and the section from Vo Nguyen Giap Street to Pham Van Dong (section 2).

These two projects were approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in late 2023. Of which, the section from Phu Huu Bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap Street (section 1) with a length of 3.5 km will be invested with 6-8 lanes. The project has a total investment of VND 9,328 billion (land clearance cost is VND 6,675 billion).

The section from Vo Nguyen Giap to Pham Van Dong (section 2), 2.5 km long, will have 6-8 lanes. The total investment is 4,543 billion VND, of which site clearance is 1,956 billion VND.

Following the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in early April this year, the Traffic Department urgently carried out procedures to ensure the Project's commencement in December 2024.

However, after developing a detailed plan, from now until the end of 2024, many steps must be taken, such as preparing documents and implementing technical infrastructure relocation; surveying, establishing, appraising and approving designs after basic design; preparing, submitting and approving feasibility study reports, etc.

Therefore, the Project will not start construction until the first quarter of 2025.

To ensure the project's progress in the first quarter of 2025, the Traffic Committee recommends that the City People's Committee consider directing relevant departments, branches and units to coordinate and support in the appraisal and approval of documents related to the architectural competition, project feasibility study report; compensation, support and resettlement documents.

Ring Road 2, Ho Chi Minh City is 64 km long, up to now 50 km has been completed and put into use, 14 km is not yet closed.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City is researching to close the remaining 14 km, divided into 4 sections.
Section 1 from Phu Huu bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap street, 3.5 km long, total investment of 9,328 billion VND from the budget.
Section 2 from Vo Nguyen Giap Street to Pham Van Dong, 2.5 km long, total investment of 4,543 billion VND from the budget.
Section 3 from Pham Van Dong Street to Go Dua intersection (National Highway 1), 2.7 km long, total investment of 2,765 billion VND, invested in the form of BT.
Section 4, from National Highway 1A to Nguyen Van Linh Street, is 5.3 km long and currently has no capital to invest in.
