Accompanying and supporting Huong Hoa farmers in economic development

Over the years, the Farmers' Association at all levels in Huong Hoa district has always accompanied and effectively implemented programs and activities to support farmers in developing production, shifting economic structure, restructuring agricultural production associated with building new rural areas, and increasing added value per unit area. The movement of farmers competing in production, good business, uniting to help each other get rich and reduce poverty has developed strongly, exploiting the potential and advantages of land reasonably, contributing to increasing farmers' income, making the appearance of the mountainous rural areas of Huong Hoa district increasingly prosperous.

Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Huong Hoa District, Ho Van Toan, said that, thoroughly grasping the viewpoint that economic development is the focus, the Farmers' Associations at all levels in the district have focused on doing a good job of propaganda and mobilizing farmers to boldly invest in applying scientific and technical advances in production, transforming the structure of crops and livestock, changing production thinking and production organization forms according to the requirements of commodity production and market demand. Accompanying and supporting farmers in economic development, the Standing Committee of the Farmers' Association of the district has assigned targets for the association bases to develop at least one effective economic model with the help and direction of farmers.

Since then, the district has had many models with high economic efficiency such as: wild boar breeding model in Lao Bao, Huong Tan; banana growing and trading in Tan Long; developing boi loi trees in Huong Lap, Huong Viet; replanting coffee trees in Khe Sanh and Huong Phung, Huong Tan; pepper growing in Huong Phung and Tan Lien communes; developing rubber and cassava trees in Lia communes; farm stay tourism model, homestay farm in Huong Phung, Khe Sanh town...

The movement of farmers competing in production and good business has promoted production development in the direction of specializing in crops and livestock, creating high-value products. From this movement, many farmers have become business owners, farm owners, and many households have become well-off and wealthy. In 5 years (2018-2023), the whole district has 1,477 households that are good at production and business at all levels, reaching 11% of the total number of farmer households.

Promoting the role of farmers as the main subject in building and developing effective economic models in agriculture and rural areas, the District Farmers' Association directs grassroots associations to mobilize farmers to build production development models associated with restructuring the agricultural sector and building new rural areas, exploiting the potential and advantages of each region and locality such as models: growing passion fruit in Huong Phung commune; growing medicinal plants such as Solanum procumbens in communes of Lia area; raising commercial rabbits in Khe Sanh, Lao Bao, Huong Tan; raising breeding bamboo rats in Khe Sanh; garden - pond - cage models in Khe Sanh, Lao Bao, Huong Tan...

From 2018 to present, the district has established 6 cooperatives and 12 agricultural cooperative groups to link and support production development, change thinking and form of effective production organization in agriculture and rural areas. In addition, the District Farmers' Association actively supports farmers in carrying out procedures and steps to register trademarks, participate in trade promotion, and promote local products with strengths such as collective brands of Huong Hoa Banana, Huong Hoa Avocado, A Ho dried bamboo shoots of Huong Phung dried bamboo shoots cooperative, Khe Sanh coffee, etc.

Up to now, 4,500/9,746 farmer members have registered to participate in the electronic trading floor, reaching 46.1% of the total number of members in the district. Economic models have been effective, helping farmer members access new technical advances, contributing to the transformation of crop and livestock structure for farmer households, restructuring sustainable agricultural production, increasing added value, creating jobs, increasing income to improve life, contributing to poverty reduction. Many new scientific and technical advances have been applied, helping farmers access advanced production processes, increasing value per unit area.

To contribute to economic development and new rural construction, maintaining political security on the border, in the coming time, farmers' associations at all levels in Huong Hoa district will continue to organize well the movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, unite to help each other get rich and reduce poverty"; the campaign "Implementing the national target program on new rural construction" and the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas", creating strong changes in agricultural production, rural economy and improving farmers' lives.

“The District Farmers' Association will focus on promoting propaganda, consulting, and guiding farmers to participate in economic models in agriculture and rural areas in the spirit of Resolution No. 19-NQ/TW dated June 16, 2022 of the Party Central Committee (13th tenure) on agriculture, farmers, and rural areas to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

“Innovate and improve the quality and efficiency of the activities of farmers’ associations at all levels in consulting and supporting farmers to develop agriculture in a sustainable direction and produce goods; actively apply scientific and technical advances in agriculture and small-scale industry, contributing to the shift in labor structure, building rural infrastructure; successfully implementing the cause of industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas in Huong Hoa district,” Mr. Ho Van Toan added.
