The Ninh Thuan province drought, erosion and flood prevention project to adapt to climate change has a total investment of VND 945,279 billion; of which, AFD loan capital is VND 688,233 billion, the rest is the province's counterpart capital, with 2 construction and non-construction components implemented in the districts: Ninh Phuoc, Ninh Son, Thuan Nam. The project's goal is to maximize the efficiency of water resources, providing irrigation water for cultivated land of localities in the benefiting area, with about 4,530 hectares; at the same time, providing water for people's lives, industrial development activities and tourism services in the southern region of the province. The project implementation period is expected from 2023 to 2026.
Comrade Tran Quoc Nam, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the working session with the AFD delegation.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Herrvé Conan, Director of AFD in Vietnam, said: With the close cooperation and coordination between AFD and the province in the past time, the project implementation steps have made progress. It is recommended that the province continue to closely follow and coordinate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the Ministry of Finance to soon complete the project proposal to submit to the Prime Minister for approval of the project in October this year, to have a basis for implementing the next steps. On the AFD side, it is committed to maintaining the financial terms and preferential loans as agreed by the two sides.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee thanked and appreciated the attention and support of Mr. Herrvé Conan as well as the members of the working delegation for the project implemented in the province. This is a very important project, contributing to the gradual completion of the irrigation system, effectively serving the needs of agricultural production, domestic water for people and other local activities. The province will focus on prioritizing all resources as well as working with central ministries and branches on necessary contents for the project to be implemented soon. He hoped that the working delegation would soon discuss with the AFD Board of Directors to approve the grants and consider extending the loan period proposed by the province, in order to ensure the balance and arrangement of the budget for the project.
