Because there is no common scale for considering transcripts when enrolling in universities, many schools have stopped considering admissions using this method.
From this year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education will stop using transcripts for admission. MSc. Nguyen Ngoc Trung, Vice Principal of the school, said that previously, the school maintained an independent transcript admission method with an admission rate of 15% - 20% of the target. From this year, the school will not use transcripts but only enroll students using 4 main methods, including: Direct admission according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training; priority admission and admission of specialized class students; admission based on specialized capacity assessment exams organized by the school; admission based on high school graduation exam scores.
According to Master Nguyen Ngoc Trung, for many years, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education has organized a specialized competency assessment exam. The admission method based on the results of this exam has been effective. Therefore, from this year, the school will abandon the method of considering academic records to increase the quota for the method of considering the results of the specialized competency assessment exam. Mr. Trung said that considering academic records does not have a common scale, but each high school has a different level of assessment, so the quality of input is not consistent.
Hanoi National University of Education will also stop using academic transcripts for admission. In previous years, the school used academic transcripts as an independent admission method. From this year, the school will no longer consider academic transcripts but plans to use only three methods, including: Considering high school graduation exam results; direct admission, giving priority to candidates with outstanding abilities and achievements; admission based on the school's ability assessment test (SPT) scores.
In previous years, Ho Chi Minh City Banking University maintained the independent admission method. Although using the transcript results is an independent admission method, in essence, such admission does not fully assess the students' abilities. Therefore, from this year, the school combines the transcript results of each semester with the subject results according to the subject group along with other criteria and priority points (if any). Specifically, the school considers the transcript results with the scores of other criteria (international English certificate + exam scores for excellent students + specialized/gifted school scores + excellent student classification scores) and other priority points (if any).
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Thuy, Head of Admissions and Communications Department - Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, this method ensures fairness in assessing students' overall learning outcomes.
At Nha Trang University, if in 2024, 4 admission methods were used, including considering academic records, this year, only the admission method based on the results of the capacity assessment organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University, Hanoi National University... and considering the high school graduation exam scores in 2025 will be used. Associate Professor, Dr. To Van Phuong, Head of Training Department - Nha Trang University, said that this year, the school uses high school study results (academic records) for preliminary selection to screen candidates whose high school subjects are suitable for their training professions and give preliminary selection scores for each profession.
