Presenting a paper at ICEBA2024 on the morning of November 11, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Vinh, Senior Technical Director of Synopsys Vietnam, said that in the near future, more and more familiar devices will be integrated with AI.
Presenting a paper on "Edge AI Development Trends" at the 5th International Conference on Engineering, Physics, MEMS - Biomedical Sensors and Applications (ICEBA2024) on the morning of November 11, Mr. Nguyen Phuc Vinh, Senior Technical Director of Synopsys Vietnam, said that artificial intelligence (AI) currently requires a lot of processing resources, memory and energy. This is a new trend that leads and creates new opportunities for the microchip industry, especially in the design and development of specialized chips or integrated chips for AI applications.
AI development is many times faster than hardware capabilities
AI will also help accelerate social progress and development, bringing great benefits to humans. In the near future, the proportion of products using AI applications in daily life will increase rapidly. This is considered an irreversible trend. However, currently, the development of microchips for AI is still facing many challenges, especially in terms of energy sources, memory and communication system limitations to retrieve end-user queries. This will be an opportunity for microchips to support personal and edge artificial intelligence.
According to Mr. Phuc Vinh, familiar, daily-use devices (such as phones, watches, glasses or surveillance cameras, etc.) that are integrated with AI will be more numerous in the future and will be very helpful to us. Mr. Vinh gave an example to visualize edge artificial intelligence (Edge AI), when using an AI pair of glasses, looking at a product, we can query what components are in it, how to use it, its price history, and its origin almost immediately.
Mr. Nguyen Phuc Vinh, Senior Technical Director of Synopsys Vietnam, presented a paper at the conference.
However, according to Mr. Vinh, the speed of AI development is currently many times faster than the ability to respond to hardware, this challenge poses the need for more investment in research to help optimize and accelerate AI hardware design. But it must be recognized that it is also an opportunity for many researchers as well as lecturers. They can find new points, strengths in algorithms, hardware and from there can develop systems suitable for the increasing demand for AI microprocessors.
In addition to Mr. Nguyen Phuc Vinh's presentation, ICEBA2024 also gathered many Vietnamese and international scientists who are conducting research on mechanical engineering, civil engineering, technical physics, and semiconductor microcircuits for application in fields such as: Biomedical engineering, health sciences, construction, high-tech agriculture, and smart cities.
The ICEBA2024 conference took place on November 11-12, organized by the University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) in collaboration with the Western University of Construction (Vinh Long) and Tohoku University (Japan).

Many scientific activities at the 14th Scientific Conference
Also on November 11-12, at the University of Natural Sciences, the Conference on Earth Sciences and Sustainable Development (CESD) took place.
ICEBA2024 and CESD are part of the series of activities of the 14th Scientific Conference - 2024 at the University of Natural Sciences. The Scientific Conference of the University of Natural Sciences is held every 2 years. The 14th Scientific Conference in 2024 has the theme "Science and Technology towards a green and smart future".
Speaking on the sidelines of the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Minh Triet, Vice Principal of the University of Natural Sciences, said that the school always wants to organize science and technology activities so that professors and experts have the opportunity to exchange with students new knowledge and fields in the country as well as in the world and the ability to apply them in life.
"This year, the school's conferences have been developed to be international, inviting experts from many countries around the world to present, attracting papers from schools around the world to attend," Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Minh Triet added.
The 14th conference series took place from November 11-26, including 7 sub-committees and 6 international conferences with 828 scientific reports from domestic and foreign scientists. In addition, 3 other international events/conferences were organized by the school in coordination with other schools/universities before and after this series of events, with more than 260 scientific reports.
