The trip marked him as the only US president to visit Vietnam in the first year of his term since the two countries normalized relations.

The second time was in 2019, when Mr. Trump came to Hanoi to attend the US-North Korea summit.

On November 7, General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent congratulatory messages to Mr. Trump on his election as president.

Vietnam and the US are looking forward to celebrating the 30th anniversary of normalized relations in 2025. The US is currently one of Vietnam's leading export markets, the first market to see export value surpass the 100 billion USD mark.

According to the General Statistics Office, in the first 10 months of this year, the US was still Vietnam's largest export market with a turnover of 98.4 billion USD.
