The event was co-organized by the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City, Tuoi Tre newspaper and Saigontourist Group.
According to the organizers, with the aim of finding solutions to attract international visitors, including Japanese visitors to Vietnam at the end of the year as well as in the coming time, while contributing to promoting diplomatic, economic, trade and tourism relations between the two countries, the conference will focus on analyzing the tourism picture of Vietnam and Japan. Thereby, finding traditional solutions as well as technology to promote the flow of potential Japanese visitors.
The program is attended by representatives of the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, leading Vietnamese travel and tourism businesses, experts and people knowledgeable about Japanese tourism. The parties will share measures to effectively exploit and accelerate the international tourist market, especially the Japanese market.
In particular, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism will discuss changes in the Japanese market in the city's top 10 international tourist markets; Japanese experts will share about new consumer behavior of tourists, along with technology solutions and new products proposed by travel and tourism companies to welcome international visitors in the last months of the year.
At the same time, the workshop also mentioned the opportunity to promote Vietnamese tourism to international friends through digital tools and social networks as an inevitable solution.
According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in the first 8 months of 2024, Japanese tourists to Vietnam ranked 5th with 461,000 arrivals. Although still in the top 10 largest markets of Vietnam tourism, the position of the Japanese market is no longer as leading as before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Overall, the trend of Japanese tourists going abroad is decreasing in all destinations, not just Vietnam. Japanese government data shows that the proportion of people with valid passports has also dropped sharply.
Before the pandemic, about 24% of the Japanese population had passports, but by 2023, only 17% of people had valid passports, reflecting a decline in demand for overseas travel. According to the latest statistics, 35% of Japanese people do not intend to travel abroad in the context of currency depreciation.
However, if Vietnamese tourism knows how to grasp and satisfy the needs of Japanese tourists, there will still be opportunities to promote this number of tourists to Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh City, with its advantage of high satisfaction index from Japanese tourists, continues to be a favorite destination. Recently, a number of hotels in the area have increased stimulus packages for Japanese tourists, with special price incentives for Japanese tourists coming to Vietnam for business. In addition, there are preferential packages for airport pick-up, flexible room upgrades, and adding Japanese cuisine to the menu...
But according to businesses, to extend the length of stay and increase spending by Japanese tourists, the tourism industry still has a lot to do.
