The 134th anniversary of the birth of the great President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2024) is an opportunity for every cadre and Party member to further strengthen their determination to study, cultivate, train, and practice revolutionary ethics correctly and genuinely, building a clean and strong Party that will forever be the leading banner of the nation in the new era.
The foundation upon which the Party became the leading banner of the revolution.
As the leader of the Party, President Ho Chi Minh was a shining example of revolutionary ethics for cadres, Party members, and the Vietnamese people to learn from and emulate. From the very beginning of the Party's establishment, in his work "The Revolutionary Path," President Ho Chi Minh identified revolutionary ethics as the first and most fundamental core issue of the Vietnamese revolution.
He repeatedly emphasized that morality is the "foundation" of a revolutionary, because: "Just as a river needs a source to have water, without a source the river dries up. A tree must have roots, without roots the tree withers. A revolutionary must have morality; without morality, no matter how talented they are, they cannot lead the people."
Following the example of revolutionary ethics and deeply imbued with President Ho Chi Minh's teachings, for over 93 years of leading the Vietnamese revolutionary cause, the Party has always paid attention to and focused on building the Party's ethics, considering this a regular and continuous task. Thanks to this, the Party has won the hearts of the people, uniting them in their efforts and hearts, undeterred by sacrifice and hardship, to achieve glorious victories.
Revolutionary practice has shown that during the years of resistance and national liberation, the image of pioneering Party members and soldiers carrying the flag of decisive victory or the hammer and sickle flag, charging forward, leading the heroic army to defeat the enemy; as one fell, another stepped forward to continue raising the flag, had a powerful persuasive effect, arousing in the masses a fervent patriotism and a determination to wholeheartedly follow the revolutionary path under the leadership of the Party.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Minh Truong (Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy), one important reason affirming the Party's leadership role and position is the exemplary Party members who fought and sacrificed themselves heroically in the face of the enemy's bayonets and guillotines, demonstrating unwavering patriotism and shining moral qualities, representing revolutionary heroism. This is the factor that builds absolute trust between the Party and the people; it is the most important basis for creating the strength to defeat the enemy and achieve victory.
Practice revolutionary ethics seriously and genuinely.
Prestige can be understood as the trust a person earns through their own qualities and talents. For leaders, in this case the Communist Party of Vietnam , what builds the Party's prestige and earns the trust of the entire nation to lead the revolution is not only the correct revolutionary line: national independence linked with socialism, but also the pioneering and exemplary role of Party members, especially those holding leadership positions. This includes the responsibility of setting a revolutionary moral example; from actions and words to lifestyle, everything must be done in a way that earns the people's trust, respect, and love.
According to Dr. Tran Thi Hoi (Ho Chi Minh National Political Academy), morality is the element that makes the Party strong and attractive to the people. Without morality, the Party would not be able to unite and rally the people, and therefore would not be capable of leading and guiding the nation in carrying out the revolution.
Frankly speaking, there was a time when the image of a communist in the eyes of the people was a model of revolutionary morality, heroism, self-sacrifice for national independence, prosperity, and happiness for the people, and the dream of many: "If you are a person, be a communist!". However, as the country transitioned to a socialist-oriented market economy , the image of the communist party member seemed to lose some of its appeal.
In documents and speeches by high-ranking leaders, the Party has issued warnings about this troubling reality. This includes the decline in people's trust in the Party; manifestations of "apathy towards the Party," "indifference towards the Youth Union," and "political detachment" among a segment of young people...
Why does this phenomenon occur?
This is because, alongside the majority of steadfast party members whose integrity is not tainted by the temptations of money and fame, there is a segment of party members who do not regularly cultivate revolutionary ethics; they fail to maintain their pioneering and exemplary roles, self-destructing their own roles, and some even degenerate and become corrupt, no longer worthy of the status and title of party member.
In the book "Resolutely and persistently fighting against corruption and negative phenomena, contributing to building a cleaner and stronger Party and State," General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong had to warn: "These very people have harmed the reputation and prestige of the Party, and diminished the trust of the masses in the Party."
There have been many cases of Party officials being disciplined and prosecuted in recent times for violating the Party Charter and regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do, for personal gain and disregarding Party discipline and State laws. In 2023, the Party disciplined 19 officials under the management of the Politburo and the Secretariat, including, for the first time, 6 officials who were disciplined for violations in declaring assets and income. From the beginning of the 13th Party Congress term to the end of 2023, the Party disciplined 105 officials under the management of the Central Committee, including 22 current and former members of the Central Committee.
These are the figures that, according to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, are "heartbreaking, but unavoidable; there is no other way!" "This is a profound lesson, a costly lesson for all of us."
Therefore, in the current Party rectification process, building the Party on moral foundations is a crucial and urgent requirement. In this context, educating and cultivating revolutionary ethics among cadres and Party members is a central focus, because cadres and Party members are the cells of the Party; only when these cells are clean can the Party's body be strong and healthy.
Recognizing this, the entire Party has recently responded to and implemented Directive No. 05-CT/TW of the Politburo on promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality, and style; and Conclusion No. 01-KL/TW of the Politburo on continuing the implementation of Directive 05-CT/TW with widespread impact. In the movement to study and emulate Uncle Ho's example, Party members, especially leading cadres and heads of organizations, must be pioneers, role models, and regularly and genuinely practice revolutionary moral standards. Don't just talk about fighting strongly while your own feet are still covered in mud, yet you carry a torch to illuminate others' feet.
"Morality is the foundation of a revolutionary." President Ho Chi Minh's statement is not merely a teaching, nor is it simply a slogan of a movement; it is a prerequisite, a mandatory requirement, and a decisive factor in the survival of the regime. Only through serious and genuine practice of revolutionary morality, like "washing one's face daily," can Party members, especially those holding positions of authority, truly maintain their integrity; only then can the Party truly be clean, strong, "moral, civilized," an organization of outstanding individuals with firm political convictions; possessing the capacity and prestige to forever uphold and raise the banner of leadership, worthy of the responsibility entrusted to it by the people.
