Vietnam Press Museum receives valuable artifacts from the family of Mr. Jean-Marie Jacquemin

(CLO) On February 22, the Vietnam Press Museum held a ceremony to receive the artifacts 'French press writing about President Ho Chi Minh' and some other documents and artifacts donated by Mr. Jean-Marie Jacquemin, a French collector.


The event is very meaningful as 2025 is the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday and the press nationwide is having exciting activities to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2024).

Due to health reasons, collector Jean-Marie Jacquemin could not come to Vietnam to attend the event. His son, Jean-Claude Jacquemin, was present in person at the Vietnam Press Museum to present his father's artifacts.

Mr. Jean-Marie Jacquemin is known as the person who donated many valuable documents and artifacts about Vietnam. In particular, the book "1968-1973 Verrières-le-Buisson: Ben bo binh an" is a collection of hundreds of French and international articles, collected by Mr. Jean-Marie Jacquemin and his friends, with articles written about the war in Vietnam. Among them are many articles about the negotiation process of the Paris Peace Agreement with a pro-Vietnam stance.

He also donated and transferred many other valuable documents and artifacts such as stamp collections of newspapers and magazines around the world, and many articles about Vietnam in French newspapers...

In particular, during this visit to Vietnam, Mr. Jean-Marie Jacquemin wishes, through his son, to present to the Museum a number of newspapers containing articles about President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary activities and the international reaction when he passed away in 1969...

These documents are not only meaningful to the press but also important historical evidence reflecting the great stature of President Ho Chi Minh and the world's affection for him. This is a very meaningful event in the context of our country preparing to celebrate the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth.

At the ceremony, on behalf of his family, Mr. Jean-Claude Jacquemin presented the Vietnam Press Museum with publications including stamps of newspapers and magazines around the world, a collection of many articles about Vietnam in French newspapers...

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Jean-Claude Jacquemin thanked the Vietnam Press Museum for its warm and thoughtful welcome and the support from journalist Nguyen Thu Ha, Head of the Vietnam News Agency's Resident Office in France, which gave him the opportunity to visit the Vietnam Press Museum and present his father's artifacts to the Vietnamese people.

Sharing about his father, Mr. Jean-Claude Jacquemin said that more than 70 years ago, the Geneva Conference on ending the war in Indochina was opened. The delegation of the Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam attended the conference. His family lived right in front of the house where the Democratic Republic of Vietnam Delegation lived and worked. During that time, the family members always supported the activities of the delegation and had a love for Vietnam since those days.

Mr. Jean-Claude Jacquemin informed: "Later, when the Paris Agreement on ending the war and restoring peace in Vietnam was held, my father spent a lot of time learning about Vietnam, collecting books, newspapers and magazines from France and other countries, and also postage stamps about Vietnam."

Mr. Jean-Claude Jacquemin confided: I am very happy and proud that the artifacts donated today are received and solemnly displayed at the Vietnam Press Museum. Hopefully, these documents and artifacts will contribute to creating a flame of enthusiasm to continue the tradition for the younger generation, to light the fire for the Vietnamese youth. Through each artifact, it will affirm the sentiment of the French people accompanying the Vietnamese people, with the revolution of construction and development of Vietnam.

On this occasion, Comrade Bui Thuy Vinh, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Press Museum and the Museum's staff presented flowers and souvenirs to Mr. Jacquemin.

At the ceremony, journalist Tran Thi Kim Hoa, Permanent Advisor to the Vietnam Press Museum, shared: Mr. Jean-Marie Jacquemin used to work as a journalist and had a special love for journalism and Vietnam since he was a child. He gave the most beautiful flowers in his garden to Foreign Minister Nguyen Thi Binh, representative of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Republic of South Vietnam to attend the Paris Agreement... with that love, over time he collected many press publications about Vietnam, especially publications about President Ho Chi Minh...
