Bui Dinh Thuy's mark in realistic paintings

Bui Dinh Thuy is a young artist currently participating in activities at the Quang Tri Literature and Arts Association. Although he has not been involved in painting for long, he has made an impression on the art world and art lovers through portraits, still lifes or nature paintings inspired by the beautiful scenery of his beloved homeland Cua Viet.

Bringing the homeland into the drawing

Bui Dinh Thuy was born into a fishing family in Cua Viet coastal area, Gio Linh district. Although no one in his family followed the path of art, he was passionate and had a talent for painting since he was a child. Since he learned to hold a pen, he often drew animals, rivers, fishing boats - familiar images but through his drawings, they were very vivid, surprising and exciting everyone.

Growing up and passing the entrance exam to Hue University of Arts, the boy born in 1992 officially set foot on the path of art.

He confided: “My path to the art of painting was not easy. In life, everyone wants to find and pursue their own interests, and so do I. While studying interior design at Hue University of Arts, I always asked myself if it was suitable for me and if I really liked it? Deep in my heart, I knew that with my passion for painting since I was a child and my personality, the job of an artist was very suitable for me.

Therefore, during my time at school, I often attended art classes and learned from the art teachers. When I graduated, I did not pursue my major but switched to painting. Currently, I am a freelance artist.

“The Mark of Time”

With his ability to draw in a realistic style, artist Dinh Thuy creates incredibly beautiful paintings. At first, everyone thought that these were products of modern technology, meticulously edited with Photoshop. The themes he depicts are very simple, such as the peaceful spring of the country, the daily life of people in all regions, fruits from different regions... Dinh Thuy does not use any software, but only sketches by hand and then uses colors to paint.

He pays attention to every little detail in the painting, which makes the work more vivid and soulful. To complete his works of art, Dinh Thuy spends a lot of effort, some paintings take him several months to complete. Painter Dinh Thuy shared: “Life is the richest material for artists to use in their paintings. I always record images and everyday moments of life around me, thereby sending many meaningful messages to viewers.”

Always be creative in creating works

From seemingly dry and rigid art objects in life, when put into paintings, artist Dinh Thuy always renews himself by building the layout, expression style, using thick, hot colors and free-flowing, innovative strokes. However, he also creates an open space for viewers to easily feel the story in the paintings.

For him, to have a quality work, the artist not only draws with talent but also with aesthetic emotions. When encountering a flower on the roadside or a village scene, he often records it from memory and exploits it to create a work of art.

In his creative career, artist Dinh Thuy has created many realistic paintings, mainly oil and acrylic paintings on canvas. He has also participated in many exhibitions in the region and nationwide.

“After the rain”

Master Vo Van Luyen, member of the Vietnam Writers Association and the Quang Tri Literature and Arts Association, said: “Throughout many eras with historical and scientific changes, realistic paintings have also changed in both concept and descriptive techniques. However, one thing remains unchanged, which is that the artist always seeks to capture and describe his context in the most honest way. And that is what the young artist Bui Dinh Thuy has achieved, until today.”

A portrait hanging in the house always creates a cozy and intimate feeling. If the portrait is artistically successful, it also gives us interesting emotions about the color, lines, shapes, and even the character's personality. However, to do that requires the artist to have perfect skills, a clear observational mind, and emotions that are rarely found between the artist and the model. Most art schools teach portrait drawing, but only at the level of studying the structure of form.

Painter Truong Minh Du, Quang Tri Literature and Arts Association, commented on painter Dinh Thuy: “There are many painters who paint in a realistic style like Dinh Thuy, but he has a different way of choosing images as well as color tones. In 2020, Thuy's paintings were entered into a national exhibition, this is an honor for the Quang Tri province's painting community as well as an assessment of Thuy's real ability. In recent years, with his realistic painting style,

Dinh Thuy has been more creative in building images and very special complementary shapes. Thuy has a soft drawing style, a very simple color scheme but with depth. What is more special is that the colors in Thuy's paintings are beautiful, luxurious and eye-catching, admired by the public. With such a trend, I believe that Thuy's paintings will increasingly have a big mark in the province and the whole country."

"Time"

Drawing and playing with realistic paintings is not a new hobby but will never get old. For Bui Dinh Thuy, with all the passion and enthusiasm of youth, the artistic passion of realistic paintings has always burned from then until now. "Painters always prepare themselves with new ideas, to change themselves and surpass themselves is the most difficult thing. In the future, I want to have my own exhibitions, so that I am always newer and more unique in the eyes of the public", painter Dinh Thuy shared.

From impressive portraits and simple everyday landscapes collected on his new artistic path, artist Bui Dinh Thuy has created his own style in the realistic painting genre of the realist school. Hopefully, with his talent and passion, he will continue to contribute to beautifying colorful life.
