Kinhtedothi-On December 3, the Representative Board of the Association of the Elderly (NCT) of Gia Lam district solemnly held the Congress to establish the Association of the Elderly of Gia Lam district, period 2024 - 2026. Attending the Congress were representatives of the leaders of the Association of the Elderly of Hanoi City and leaders of Gia Lam district.
Currently, in Gia Lam district, there are 41,530 members participating in activities at 22 association bases. In recent years, the elderly at all levels from district to grassroots have advised and helped authorities at all levels organize longevity greetings and celebrations for 16,520 people with a total amount of over 12 billion VND. The grassroots association of the elderly has promoted its core role in the movement "The whole people care for, support, and promote the role of the elderly"; proactively socializing charitable activities.
Typically, the Association at all levels has visited, subsidized, and given gifts to 6,244 members with a total amount of VND 2.645 billion; supported the construction of 2 houses for the poor elderly association members of Le Chi commune with a total amount of VND 120 million. Organized many rich and diverse activities to meet the needs and aspirations of the elderly such as the "Singing Contest for the Elderly", organized the "Intergenerational Self-Help" Club with 70% of elderly members, supporting each other to develop the economy; health care exchange activities, poetry composition for anniversaries, etc.
In the movement “Old age - Bright example”, the elderly actively participate in building the Party and government, mobilizing members and people to well implement the policies of the Party and the State. At the local level, elderly members are ready to receive and perform well the tasks assigned by the Party Committee and government, especially participating in mediation working groups at the grassroots level. Along with that, the emulation movement of the elderly to do good business has been actively responded to by many elderly people at the grassroots level, depending on their health and ability to participate in family economy, business, services, development of traditional occupations, etc.
In recognition of the contributions of the Elderly Association at all levels over the past 3 years, 49 collectives and 79 elderly individuals have been commended by the Association at all levels and 343 collectives and 917 elderly individuals have been commended by Party committees, authorities and organizations at all levels. The Gia Lam District Elderly Association Representative Board was awarded the Emulation Flag for Excellence in the "Old Age - Bright Example" emulation movement in 2022 by the Hanoi People's Committee; was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Hanoi People's Committee in 2022 and was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Elderly Association in 2021 and 2023.
Speaking at the Congress, Gia Lam District Party Secretary Nguyen Viet Ha acknowledged and commended the achievements that the Associations at all levels and members of the Elderly in the district have achieved in recent years, and at the same time requested that the District Elderly Association, immediately after its establishment, should proactively develop a Plan and Action Program to implement the Congress Resolution, closely following the functions and tasks according to the Association's Charter. Continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, creativity, and build a strong association; focus on promoting the patriotic emulation movement "Old age - Bright example"; actively advise the Party Committee and the government to care for and promote the role of the elderly.
In addition, the Association needs to strengthen propaganda and mobilization work to encourage all classes of people to study and follow Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle; well implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies; create a useful playground, improve the cultural, spiritual and health life of the elderly. Strive for the elderly in the district to live happily, healthily and happily in their families and society.
At the Congress, the Gia Lam District Party Executive Committee presented the District Elderly Association with a banner with the words "Old age - Bright example - Solidarity - Creativity - Development".
The Congress also elected the Executive Committee of the Gia Lam District Elderly Association, consisting of 16 members; elected the Standing Committee, the Inspection Committee and key positions. As a result, Head of the Gia Lam District Elderly Association Representative Board Nguyen Thi Dung was elected as President of the Gia Lam District Elderly Association for the 2024-2026 period.
On this occasion, the Hanoi People's Committee, the City Elderly Association and the Gia Lam District People's Committee commended and rewarded 20 collectives with achievements in the Elderly Association's work movement in recent times.
