(NLDO)- National Assembly delegates propose calling the National Assembly an "extraordinary session" instead of an "extraordinary session".

On February 12, discussing in the hall about the draft Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Organization of the National Assembly, many National Assembly deputies were concerned about the name "extraordinary session" of the National Assembly as in the past.

According to delegates, up to this session, the 15th National Assembly has held 9 extraordinary sessions to consider and decide on many important and urgent issues of the country, perfecting institutions and resource solutions for socio-economic development.

However, organizing meetings with the name "extraordinary meetings" has more or less created concerns about the name. From this issue, delegate Le Xuan Than (Khanh Hoa delegation) said that in addition to the current regulation on 2 regular meetings, it is possible to consider regulating thematic meetings, instead of calling them "extraordinary meetings".

Appreciating that the recent extraordinary sessions have considered and decided many important issues of the country, delegate Nguyen Anh Tri (Hanoi delegation) also proposed to consider the name, which can be regulated as "extraordinary sessions".

Delegate Ngo Trung Thanh (Dak Lak delegation) also had concerns about the name "extraordinary session". Mr. Thanh proposed that in addition to the two regular sessions, the National Assembly should hold irregular sessions.

Having a different view, delegate Ta Van Ha, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, said that the name "extraordinary session" reflects the meaning of the session, meaning that the session is addressing institutional bottlenecks.

According to Mr. Ta Van Ha, each extraordinary session also reminds that institutional issues still have shortcomings that need to be considered and improved; at the same time, it raises the issue of improving the quality of institutional building.

"Voters also hope that extraordinary meetings will be reduced more and more, and that there may be no more extraordinary meetings like this in the next term. We should not let extraordinary meetings become normal," said delegate Ta Van Ha.

Chairing the discussion session, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh also clearly explained the name of the extraordinary session, which means it is not a regular session (there are 2 regular sessions each year).

Explaining and clarifying the opinions of National Assembly deputies on this content, Mr. Hoang Thanh Tung, Chairman of the National Assembly's Law Committee, said that as some proposals, if the draft law stipulates irregular sessions or thematic sessions, it will not be subject to the provisions of the current Constitution.

Mr. Hoang Thanh Tung said that the drafting committee noted the opinions of National Assembly deputies to continue researching, absorbing and clarifying, and reporting to the National Assembly Standing Committee for submission to the National Assembly for consideration and decision.
