Kalapa Challenge 2023 with the theme ByteBattles is an annual machine learning competition, organized by Kalapa Joint Stock Company with the information sponsorship of the Vietnam Association of Information Technology.

The challenge for this year's contestants was to propose new solutions for medicine to improve the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and provide an effective solution for managing and converting handwritten documents.

“We strongly support competition models like Kalapa Challenges 2023, because it will help discover and find talents in the field of AI, a field that helps us solve many problems in life, from healthcare, education, business, production to entertainment. Creating communities of AI technology experts also contributes to the development of the AI ​​industry in Vietnam, creating a premise for the country's economic and social development,” said Mr. Nguyen Long - Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Information Technology, the information sponsor for the competition.

ByteBattles is an annual machine learning competition.

This year, the competition has the participation of 630 teams with nearly 1,000 members from all over Vietnam and Vietnamese people living and working in other countries. The total prize of the competition is 100 million VND including cash and gifts.

The final round of the competition took place on December 16th, very excitingly in the form of a competition and found the owners of the awards.

With the problem "Vietnamese Medical Question Answering", the first prize belonged to the GPU Dominators team with the only member being Ngo Dinh Luan (born in 1998), currently an AI engineer for a famous corporation in Vietnam.

As for the problem "Vietnamese Handwritten Text Recognition", the first prize went to Gau Tun's team with the only member being Do Manh (born in 1996), who is also an AI engineer.

Sharing about this year's competition, Mr. Le Tran Bao Cuong, Project Director of Kalapa and Head of the Organizing Committee of the competition, said: “The topic of the Kalapa Challenge 2023 competition is relatively difficult, targeting candidates who are good or have a lot of experience (expert level). The criteria of the competition is to find well-invested, elaborate entries with high practical application value. We expect this to be a useful technology playground for artificial intelligence (AI) engineers to have the opportunity to learn and improve their knowledge; at the same time, contribute very high-quality models for application in medicine. After this competition, the models of the winning teams will all be widely announced and will be a valuable reference for the artificial intelligence research community.”
