Master, Doctor Le Ngo Minh Nhu (ENT Clinic, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City - Branch 3), answered: Pink eye (conjunctivitis) is a common condition characterized by red, itchy and inflamed eyes. Although this condition is usually not serious, proper nutrition can play an important role in promoting a quick recovery and reducing discomfort during this stage of the disease.

There is currently no evidence to prove that using water spinach increases discharge when suffering from pink eye.

Water spinach is a hollow vegetable containing a lot of protein, lipid, minerals, carotene, vitamin B, C. There is currently no evidence to prove that using water spinach increases the discharge of mucus when suffering from pink eye. However, water spinach is cool in nature, so people who are tired should limit their intake; normal people should use it in moderation because it can cause bloating and indigestion when eaten too much.

Seafood (shrimp, crab, clams, squid, snails, etc.) is a food group that contains many nutrients but at the same time also contains many irritants that can easily cause allergies in the body in general and allergic conjunctivitis in particular. Therefore, patients with conjunctivitis must abstain from raw foods if they do not want the conjunctival infection to become more serious, prolonging the recovery time.

If you experience inflammation, pain, watery eyes, itching, or sensitivity to light, you should see a doctor immediately for treatment.

Some methods to help overcome the disease condition that comes with treatment:

  • Warm compresses on the eyes : Gently applying a warm, wet washcloth to the eyes can help relieve itching and discomfort. Cold compresses are used in cases of eye swelling, redness, and edema.
  • Avoid rubbing or touching your eyes : It is important to limit the amount of bacteria that gets near your eyes by avoiding any form of contact.
  • Clean and change pillowcases regularly.
  • Limit makeup : Especially mascara and eyeliner when eyes are inflamed.
  • Wash your hands frequently : This helps reduce the risk of spreading infection to others.
  • Avoid contact with people who have conjunctivitis : This disease is very contagious during the active phase, so you should avoid contact with patients with conjunctivitis.
  • Wear sunglasses : When going outside, wear sunglasses because sunlight can make the infection worse.
  • Nutrition : Supplement foods rich in vitamins A, C, omega-3 fatty acids, green vegetables and juicy fruits (oranges, lemons, tangerines, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, etc.) to increase resistance, reduce inflammation, and promote wound healing.
  • Some foods to limit : Salty, spicy, fatty foods, foods containing alcohol or caffeine because they can cause swelling around the eyes.
