These days, at Sa Ky fishing port (Binh Chau commune, Binh Son district, Quang Ngai province), Tinh Ky, Tinh Hoa (Quang Ngai city) are bustling with fishing boats from the fishing grounds continuously docking to sell to traders.

Dozens of fishing boats docked one after another after nearly a month at sea. Some boats hit the jackpot, earning hundreds of millions of dong.

After nearly a month drifting on Truong Sa fishing grounds, fishing boat QNg 90252 TS of fisherman Vo Dung (residing in Binh Chau commune, Binh Son district) docked at Sa Ky port amid the excitement of the crew and their families.

“After about 22 days of fishing in Truong Sa fishing grounds, my fishing boat caught about 10 tons of various types of fish including: flying fish, tuna, mackerel... With the current market price, each kilogram of flying fish ranges from 40,000 to 80,000 VND, mackerel 100,000 VND. After deducting expenses, fuel, ice... this trip, my fellow fishermen each received 10 million VND, giving them extra money to shop and spend during Tet,” said fisherman Dung.

“At the end of the last fishing trip of the year, my boat caught about 5 tons of various types of fish. After selling them, I gave each of my fellow boatmen 10 million VND and a little “bonus” money to go home to celebrate Spring and Tet with their families,” said fisherman Leo.

Not only offshore fishing vessels, but also short-term, near-shore fishing vessels also have a bumper harvest during the last fishing trips of the year. At Tinh Ky Fishing Port (Tinh Ky Commune, Quang Ngai City), fishing vessels with a capacity of less than 90 CV all returned with anchovies and mackerel after a night at sea.

Currently, seafood prices are quite stable. Flying fish is purchased by traders at the port at a price of 50,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, grouper 50,000 - 100,000 VND/kg, red snapper 40,000 VND/kg...

Besides the joy of the ship owners, people in the coastal fishing villages of Quang Ngai are equally excited. Because thanks to transporting and classifying fish, each person will have an income of 400,000 - 500,000 VND/day.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung - Chairman of the Binh Chau Commune Fisheries Union said that in the last fishing session of the year, local fishermen had more effective catches than previous sessions, seafood prices were also higher, and stable fuel costs helped fishermen have a warm Tet holiday. This is also the motivation for local fishermen to continue going out to sea after Tet.

At Tho Quang fishing port (Son Tra district, Da Nang city), on the days before Tet, many fishermen were also happy when their last sea trip of the year brought in tons of fish and seafood. From early morning, Tho Quang fishing port was bustling with the sight of boats docking, the holds full of fresh seafood being brought ashore.

Mr. Nguyen Chi, a fishing boat owner from Binh Dinh, said that seafood prices are stable this year, with traders buying right at the port at higher prices than last year. “This year, the sea is very favorable, with high catches. On this last trip of the year, I brought in a large amount of fish and seafood, enough to cover the expenses of many crew members and have some surplus for my family to buy for Tet.”

The joy of fishermen when catching many big fish in the days before Tet.

Traders come to buy right at the port at a higher price than last year.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Phuong, a fisherman who just returned from a trip, shared that the last sea trip of the year is always the most emotional trip of the year, because this is the time when big fish are often caught. After this trip, on average, each person earned nearly ten million after deducting expenses. Everyone on the boat was happy because they had money for their families to shop and have a full Tet.

According to many fishermen, even though they have to go to sea during the days before Tet, everyone is very happy and excited because the money they earn helps them cover their living expenses and have a more fulfilling Tet.
