"Xuan Son's injury is a big loss for the whole team, because Son is our main striker," coach Vu Hong Viet said at a press conference before the match between Nam Dinh and Sanfrecce Hiroshima in AFC Champions League 2 (Asian Cup C2).
After Xuan Son was injured in the 2024 AFF Cup, Nam Dinh FC faced many difficulties. The team from Thanh Nam recruited 3 new foreign players in the mid-season transfer period to supplement the attack. These players have not played in the V.League but will make their debut against Sanfrecce Hiroshima.
Coach Vu Hong Viet believes that the new players of Nam Dinh club will perform well to replace Nguyen Xuan Son.
"We brought in 3 new players. The players have had training sessions and integrated into the team. I believe the players will perform well in tomorrow's match," coach Vu Hong Viet confidently said.
Evaluating the opponent, the 45-year-old coach commented: "Japanese football is very strong, their team is number 1 in Asia and the top group in the world. The Japanese domestic league is also very good. Hiroshima is a strong opponent, ranked 2nd last season and just won the Super Cup when beating Kobe. However, we have home advantage and will try to create an advantage before playing away.

In the group stage, Sanfrecce Hiroshima topped Group E with 6 unbeaten matches (5 wins, 1 draw). Meanwhile, Nam Dinh ranked 2nd in Group G. The only defeat of the Vietnamese representative was a 2-3 loss at Bangkok United.
