Today, April 3, the State Bank announced the central exchange rate at 24,854 VND, a slight increase of 3 VND compared to yesterday. With a 5% margin compared to the central exchange rate, commercial banks are allowed to buy and sell within the range of 23,612 - 26,096 VND/USD.

By this afternoon, commercial banks continued to raise the USD price compared to the morning session.

Specifically, at 5:30 p.m., Techcombank listed the USD price at 25,559 - 26,059, thus, the USD price exceeded 26,000 VND for the first time.

Similarly, Vietcombank listed the USD price at 25,590 - 25,980, however, on the afternoon of April 3, there was a time when this bank listed the USD selling price at 26,000 VND.

At BIDV, the exchange rate also increased to 25,635 - 25,995 VND per USD. At the same time, the USD buying and selling price at Eximbank increased to 25,610 - 25,990 VND.

Compared to the beginning of the year, each USD on the official market is currently about 450 VND higher, equivalent to an increase of 1.75%.

The USDVND exchange rate increased sharply in the context of US President Donald Trump announcing import tariffs on more than 180 economies, of which Vietnam is subject to a rate of 46%. Notably, the DXY index measuring the strength of the USD is weakening despite Mr. Trump's tariffs.

This seems odd, as many popular economic models suggest that President Donald Trump’s tariffs should have boosted the US dollar. The DXY index is currently at 103.4, down 0.74%.

US President Donald Trump has announced a 10% base tariff on imports from all countries and higher tariffs on dozens of countries that have a trade surplus with the US.

In addition to the base 10% tariff, the Trump administration will also impose reciprocal tariffs on other countries that the White House considers to have trade imbalances with the United States. The tariffs will be half the rate those countries charge on U.S. exports.
