" POSITIONING" YOURSELF THROUGH EDUCATION
In beauty contests, the education of the beauties who win the title of Miss or Runner-up is always of public interest and also creates a lot of noise, because not all beauties have an education level that is considered "worthy" of the beauty they are crowned with. There are even beauty queens whose academic results, or their learning process from high school to university, are "scrutinized", creating controversy and they themselves face a lot of pressure.

Perhaps that is why Vietnamese beauty queens are actively "positioning" themselves through education, such as Miss Luong Thuy Linh who has just been admitted to the doctoral program in International Economics at the University of Economics (Hanoi National University) at the age of 25 after being crowned Miss World Vietnam 2019. According to the 10X beauty queen, although she has not yet studied for a master's degree, the study program at the University of Economics allows bachelors with a good degree or higher in the same major to study directly for a doctorate, while she has graduated with a bachelor's degree with an excellent degree. After researching, Luong Thuy Linh chose to apply with a personal thesis outline and was admitted with a total entrance assessment score of 78.00, ranking third among registered candidates.
Talking about her decision to pursue a PhD, Miss World Vietnam 2019 said: "Linh realizes that cultivating knowledge is always a goal that she pursues throughout her life. This is also the main reason that led Linh to decide to pursue a PhD after completing her undergraduate degree."
After being crowned Miss Ethnic Vietnam in July 2022, Nong Thuy Hang participated in the Miss International Friendship 2023 contest and won the second runner-up position. Having graduated with honors in International Business from the National Economics University (Hanoi), the Tay ethnic beauty decided to continue her studies for a master's degree in November 2024. "This is not a spontaneous decision or following a trend, but part of a long-term plan that Hang has cherished for a long time. As a beauty queen, Hang realizes that her responsibility is not only to inspire but also to take practical action. A good academic foundation will help Hang contribute more to the community," Thuy Hang shared.
"As a beauty queen, wanting to upgrade your knowledge for the good of your title, I think whatever the purpose and reason is, it is still good for you. It is good for your title, image, and knowledge, so that is the right thing to do," Miss Thuy Tien shared after completing her master's program in Hotel and Restaurant Management at the Swiss School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHMS University Center).
In addition, Miss Vietnam 2020 runner-up Phuong Anh has just graduated with a master's degree in Global Trade and a bachelor's degree in Business Information Systems from RMIT University. She is currently a lecturer in International Business at the Faculty of Business, RMIT University Vietnam. Or beauty Le Au Ngan Anh, Miss Ocean 2017, 4th runner-up Miss Intercontinental 2018, is a lecturer at Hoa Sen University after graduating with a master's degree with honors in International Event Management from the University of Salford (UK) in 2019.
OVERCOME PRESSURE, SPREAD KNOWLEDGE
To balance her artistic activities and studies, Nong Thuy Hang shared that she had to apply some reasonable time management methods such as making specific plans for each day and each week. Each task is prioritized according to its importance and deadline. For example, she often spends the morning on activities that require creativity and energy such as attending events or practicing, while the evening is given priority for studying and researching. "I have had to reduce the time spent on some personal hobbies such as going to the cinema or long trips with friends. Although I feel a bit regretful, I understand that in order to achieve big goals, giving up some immediate joys is absolutely necessary," Thuy Hang shared.
According to Luong Thuy Linh, the biggest difficulty is having to arrange time and travel schedule to ensure it is suitable for work because her school is in Hanoi. However, the beauty also said: "University time will be a bit "easier" because most of you and your seniors have already started working, so most of the subjects will be arranged by the school on weekends and evenings, and there are also online classes, this makes Linh more proactive in arranging everything properly."
According to Dr. Pham Thi Thuy, Deputy Head of the Faculty of Socio-Economic Management, National Academy of Public Administration - Ho Chi Minh City branch: "In today's era, beauty must go hand in hand with knowledge. The higher the education of beauty queens and runners-up, the more opportunities they have to express themselves. Their titles represent the beauty of Vietnamese women, which cannot lack intelligence, talent, cleverness, and foreign language skills. Pursuing a degree and a path of education is also a way to inspire women, spreading the image of knowledgeable women in the new era."
Miss Luong Thuy Linh shared that studying is to cultivate and supplement knowledge, which will be her luggage for life, not just to survive firmly in the entertainment industry. "There is no profession that does not require knowledge to do well, for example, actors will need to learn acting, singers will need to learn vocals... Therefore, no matter who you are, what job you are or will be doing, you should cultivate more knowledge, renew yourself every day to keep up with the market and the world," Thuy Linh said.
Previously, many beauties such as Miss Ngoc Chau, Runner-up Kim Duyen, Miss Ky Duyen, Miss Bui Quynh Hoa... faced mixed opinions from netizens because of the noise related to education.
After being forced to drop out of Ton Duc Thang University due to overdue training leave, Miss Ngoc Chau said she has just returned to school at the age of 29. She is studying Public Relations at the University of Economics and Finance in Ho Chi Minh City. Meanwhile, Bui Quynh Hoa enrolled in Business Administration at the National Economics University. Miss Ky Duyen shared in a program: "I will continue my university studies, after graduating I will continue to study for a master's degree."
