The story of a young artist couple in Quang Nam

(Dan Tri) – We visited the home of Bui Tinh and Bui Tien, two young painters in Quang Nam, who are also a married couple. Their home is located in the countryside of Phu Ninh district, about 5km from Tam Ky city.

Among young Vietnamese artists, the name Bui Tien is still quite unfamiliar. Bui Tinh, a painter loved by his friends for his sincerity and cheerfulness, is a native of Quang Nam. After graduating, the two decided to return to the ancient town of Hoi An and set up a creative camp.

Loving his homeland, painter Bui Tinh decided to return to his hometown with painter Bui Tien, where he could be closer to and see more clearly the simple things of his hometown. He painted the peaceful hometown before it became urbanized. Bui Tien and her husband returned to their hometown, created works and found ways to bring their paintings to the public at home and abroad.

Painter Bui Tinh and Bui Tien studied at the same Faculty of Painting – Hue University of Arts. Painter Bui Tinh graduated in 2014, Bui Tien studied and graduated two years after her husband (2016). The dreamy land of Hue has connected two kindred souls.

Painter Bui Tien said that when she was a student, she studied oil painting, while painter Bui Tinh studied silk painting. “When the two of them got married, their professions were reversed – Tinh specialized in oil painting and often painted with acrylic, while I did my works on silk,” said painter Bui Tien.

The main space of the house is used by artists Bui Tinh and Bui Tien as a place to create. Each person has a private space to work.

Artist Bui Tien is continuing to paint her series. Her works were recently exhibited at Art Taipei (Taiwan).

In addition to his time painting, artist Bui Tinh also takes on many other jobs related to the painting industry outside. Artist Bui Tinh takes on mural painting and decoration jobs for shops and cafes in big cities such as Tam Ky, Hoi An, Da Nang, Hue, etc.

In the middle of the house is a work by artist Bui Tinh. The author said that the painting is “The Burnt Cat’s Tail”, painted in 2023 (the year of the Cat).

The small stilt house is the main studio of the artist couple Bui Tinh and Bui Tien. When the windbreak is removed, the countryside scene of the South Central region appears so familiar.

The two artists have a daughter – Yen May (4 years old). Her name is another way of saying Bui Van Tinh (real name of artist Bui Tinh). Every weekday, before starting to paint, the couple must complete the usual tasks of parents.

While Yen May was studying, painters Bui Tinh and Bui Tien went out to find creative materials. As a native of Quang Nam, painter Bui Tinh loved his birthplace dearly, his paintings were often associated with the landscape of his homeland, a beautiful Quang Nam.

Artists Bui Tinh and Bui Tien are completing the final stages, framing Bui Tien's paintings to send to Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for the upcoming exhibition "Coi Rieng" at Tomura Lee Gallery on November 29, 2024.
