Previously, data collection at 110kv substations was entirely done by engineers directly at the station. Each device and each operating parameter had to be recorded manually, from voltage, current, power to temperature, oil level... This process was not only time-consuming but also prone to errors.
Recently, Lao Cai High Voltage Grid Enterprise (under Lao Cai PC) has invested in modern technology, automation in the management and operation of 8 unmanned 110kv substations/18 transformers. Thanks to this, previous operations that required a lot of effort and human resources have now been replaced by an automatic monitoring, data collection and remote control system.
All of these operating parameters have been automatically collected and transmitted to the Lao Cai PC Remote Control Center. The data is synthesized and analyzed, helping dispatchers quickly make accurate and timely dispatching decisions. This not only helps improve the reliability of the grid but also significantly reduces the risk of unsafe operations.
Adjusting the transformer tap to maintain stable voltage, changing the medium voltage grid connection, and adjusting the equipment operating mode have all been automated. Thanks to this, maintenance and repair processes can be performed flexibly without interrupting the power supply.

Use Flycam to check the power grid. |
Previously, each time operating parameters were adjusted, workers had to go to the site to operate, record and check. Now, with just a few operations on the remote control system, the entire operation process is performed accurately and quickly. This not only helps optimize human resources but also ensures continuity and safety in the power supply process.
In addition to automating the operation of transformer stations, PC Lao Cai also promotes the application of modern technology in monitoring and maintaining the power grid. One of the important innovations is the use of drones (flycam) to inspect power lines.
Previously, to check a power line on complex mountainous terrain, electricians had to spend hours, even days. Now, with the help of flycam, this work is done quickly, effectively and more safely.
Workers are also equipped with thermal cameras and super-zoom cameras to detect hot spots or defects on the line, helping to prevent incidents in time. These devices not only help reduce risks during inspections but also help increase the life of electrical equipment.
The deployment of a system to monitor temperature, humidity, and oil levels of equipment in the transformer station also brings many benefits. Thanks to sensors and early warning systems, abnormal signs are detected promptly, thereby helping PC Lao Cai to take quick measures to minimize the risk of serious incidents.
In addition, PC Lao Cai also promotes digital transformation in other areas such as business management, human resources, customer care, material management, etc. All of these processes are being gradually digitized, helping to improve work efficiency, save time and costs.
Data digitization not only makes operational management more convenient but also creates a foundation for the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data to analyze and forecast the status of the power grid. Thanks to that, PC Lao Cai can build optimal operating scenarios, minimize risks and improve energy efficiency.
In addition, PC Lao Cai also promotes the deployment of smart energy monitoring systems, helping customers track electricity consumption in real time. This not only enhances the customer experience but also helps them use electricity more economically and efficiently.
