On the afternoon of December 4, at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his wife met with King Naruhito and Queen Masako as part of an official visit to Japan.
On the same morning, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly met with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan.
Reporting to the National Assembly Chairman and the working delegation, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu said that in the context of increasingly developing cooperation and friendly exchange between the two countries, the embassy focuses on all areas of work, not only politics and diplomacy but also economics, labor, science and technology, cultural and people-to-people exchange.
In particular, economic diplomacy is the focus of the embassy's work, achieving many positive results with the motto "taking people and businesses as the center of service", supporting Vietnamese delegations to Japan and Japanese delegations to visit Vietnam; organizing seminars and fairs of Vietnamese goods. The embassy also focuses on promoting cultural diplomacy with the motto "wherever there are Vietnamese people, there are Vietnamese festivals", organizing many large festivals in many localities. In particular, the embassy has made efforts to support and protect citizens, creating favorable conditions for citizens to carry out administrative procedures.
Speaking at the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated that Vietnam and Japan have a long-standing traditional friendship. In 2023, the two countries celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and upgraded them to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world. The official visit to Japan aims to deepen the relationship between the two countries, bringing the Vietnam-Japan relationship into a new stage of development that is more effective and substantive in all fields.

Informing the people about some main features of the domestic situation, the National Assembly Chairman stated that although the country faced many difficulties and challenges in 2024, especially the heavy losses in human lives and property caused by storm No. 3 (international name: storm Yagi), the macro-economy continued to be stable, inflation was controlled, and social security was ensured.
GDP growth for the whole year is estimated at 7%, reaching and exceeding 15/15 socio-economic targets.
Foreign affairs have been strengthened. Vietnam's position and prestige in the international arena have been raised. Attention has been paid to the prevention and fight against corruption, waste and negativity, with no forbidden areas.
However, the National Assembly Chairman also pointed out that the country is facing three bottlenecks, in which the institution is the "bottleneck of bottlenecks".
Affirming that the National Assembly is focusing on resolving institutional bottlenecks, the National Assembly Chairman said that at the 8th session, the National Assembly passed the Law on Public Investment (amended), "one law amending four laws" on investment, "one law amending nine laws" on finance and budget...
The National Assembly also passed resolutions on investment policies for the North-South high-speed railway project with a total capital of about 67 billion USD; restarting the Ninh Thuan nuclear power project...
The National Assembly Chairman said that the Party, State and National Assembly always pay attention, support and create the most favorable conditions for Vietnamese representative agencies abroad to operate effectively.
Last April, the National Assembly Standing Committee agreed with the policy and content of amending and supplementing Decree 08/2019/ND-CP dated January 23, 2019, stipulating a number of regimes for members of Vietnamese agencies abroad, to ensure better treatment for members of Vietnamese agencies abroad.
In the coming time, the National Assembly Chairman requested the Ambassador and the staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan to strengthen solidarity and responsibility, constantly improve their professional qualifications and skills to meet the increasing requirements in the period of deep international integration; thoroughly grasp the foreign policy of the Party and State, well perform the tasks set by the diplomatic sector; contribute to consolidating and further strengthening the Vietnam - Japan friendship.
The National Assembly Chairman noted that the embassy staff should coordinate to implement Vietnam-Japan parliamentary diplomacy; continue to pay attention to the Vietnamese community in Japan, grasp the situation, and promptly support them in the areas of residence, business, and study.
