On the afternoon of September 16, after 2 days of urgent, friendly, united work and with a high sense of responsibility, the official agenda was completed with great success.

At the closing session, the conference heard reports on the results of three discussion sessions; listened to presentations and adopted the Statement on “The role of youth in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals through digital transformation and innovation”. This is the first statement of the Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians in its 9th edition.

Chairman of the Young Parliamentarians Forum Dan Carden and Vietnamese National Assembly Delegate Ha Anh Phuong presented the draft Conference Declaration.

In his closing speech, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue assessed that the adoption of the Declaration demonstrated the determination, high consensus and strong commitment of young parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals on a global scale.

Through the discussions, the conference reached common understandings and emphasized the particularly important role of parliaments in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference also emphasized the “pioneering role” of young parliamentarians in bringing the voice of youth to parliament, as well as applying innovation and creativity to the implementation of the SDGs.

To commit to action and ensure continued implementation, the conference proposed promoting a global network of young parliamentarians on digital transformation and innovation, within the framework of the Young Parliamentarians Forum, in close collaboration with the IPU Centre for Parliamentary Innovation.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue emphasized that the success of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians showed that the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum is a very necessary and useful forum for young parliamentarians. The success of the conference also affirmed the importance of young parliamentarians in particular and young people in general as future owners of each country, nation and the whole world in participating in implementing the goals and tasks of the IPU and the United Nations .

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue suggested that the IPU Secretariat and IPU member parliaments disseminate the results of this conference to the United Nations Summit on the Sustainable Development Goals to be held in New York on September 18-19. Thereby honoring the role, affirming the commitment and actions of the IPU and young parliamentarians in particular in the common global effort to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The National Assembly Chairman stated that in every stage of development of nations, the National Assembly and parliamentarians are the vanguard in efforts to reform laws, institutions and international integration. The National Assembly and parliamentarians are also the bridge between political will and people's aspirations, between domestic law and international law, between people of nations and ethnicities, contributing to peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development at the regional and global levels.

"In the era of digital transformation, in the current conditions of the explosion of Science and Technology 4.0, no country, no matter how large, can solve global problems on its own. And conversely, countries, no matter how small or poor, still have opportunities to develop. In the conditions of the 4.0 industrial revolution, the future is not just an extension of the past and developing countries or larger countries can all return to the starting point, that is the opportunity and premise for us to cooperate," the National Assembly Chairman shared.

For Vietnam, the consistent policy is to promote a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, based on the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

The Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to actively cooperate with the IPU and member parliaments to join hands to realize the goals and resolutions of the IPU in general and of the Conference of Young Parliamentarians in particular, to continuously promote noble missions and elevate parliamentary diplomacy.

Before the closing session, delegates observed a minute of silence to commemorate the victims of earthquakes, natural disasters and fires in Morocco, Libya and Vietnam.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue emphasized that the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to actively contribute to the common activities of the IPU and is ready to host more conferences and other mechanisms within the framework of the IPU's activities. The National Assembly Chairman said that Vietnam is ready to host the World Summit of Speakers of Parliaments in 2025 and hopes for support from other countries.

The National Assembly Chairman's speech received much applause from the conference delegates.
