INTERNATIONAL PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE 9TH GLOBAL YOUNG PARLIAMENTARIES' CONFERENCE: IPU IS DEEPLY IMPRESSED BY VIETNAM'S ORGANIZATIONAL WORK
Overview of the International Press Conference on the results of the 9th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians held immediately after the closing of the Conference
When asked about the organization of the Conference by the host country Vietnam, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco used the word “perfect” to share his assessment. The IPU President added that when the Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly proposed that Vietnam host the Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians, the IPU did not hesitate to agree. This was partly due to the success of the 132nd IPU Assembly hosted by Vietnam in 2015. Vietnam had a perfect organization. Up to now, after 3 working days within the framework of this Global Meeting of Young Parliamentarians, Vietnam continues to affirm its organizational capacity, thereby contributing to the success of the conference.
IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong said that the results achieved at the conference far exceeded the IPU's expectations. The conference set many records, such as the number of delegates attending, with more than 300 delegates from more than 65 countries. This was partly due to Vietnam being an attractive destination and Vietnam being very meticulous in its organization and paying attention to the substance of the program's content.

Commenting on the results achieved at the Conference, IPU President Duarte Pacheco said that although the results achieved at the Conference were very successful, they were only the first step. What is more difficult is the implementation of the contents agreed upon at the Conference, how to make parliamentarians from more than 60 countries around the world attending the Conference make efforts to implement the consensus reached in their countries. The IPU President also expressed his belief that young parliamentarians will soon realize the contents discussed, recommended and agreed upon at the Conference.
According to IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong, the outcome of this Conference is a continuation of the success of the 132nd IPU Assembly in 2015, which was also held in Vietnam. With the same theme of the Sustainable Development Goals and the efforts of parliaments, but returning to Hanoi in 2023, the content of the Conference has added the aspect of digital transformation and innovation to promote the implementation of the SDGs in the context of implementation facing many difficulties in countries, leading to many goals at risk of being delayed.

The results achieved at the Conference are clearly demonstrated in the Conference Declaration, which focuses on actions and specific solutions. The young parliamentarians have called on their parliaments and themselves to act together and implement the agreed solutions. This is also based on the spirit of the 2015 Hanoi Declaration of “turning words into actions”. In that process, the IPU has committed to its member parliaments, calling for the promotion of parliamentary activities to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. At the same time, the IPU will also monitor and urge the implementation of the recommendations made at this Conference.
Expressing high agreement with the message that Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue repeatedly emphasized that our parliaments need to maintain cooperation and promote the participation of young people in innovation, the IPU Secretary General said that in his position, he will continue to take advantage of the existing IPU mechanism to empower young people to participate more in innovation, promoting the implementation of the proposed agenda.
Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum Dan Carden affirmed the important significance of the Conference
On behalf of the delegates attending the Conference, Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum Dan Carden expressed his gratitude to the host country Vietnam for the warm, thoughtful and friendly reception; he was especially impressed with the organization, the modern and lively venue chosen to host the Conference, and a series of banners promoting the Conference displayed everywhere.
Chairman of the IPU Young Parliamentarians Forum Dan Carden said that the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development Goals will be held in New York (USA) to review the progress of countries in the world in implementing issues such as climate change and poverty reduction. Therefore, the gathering of young parliamentarians in Hanoi to discuss this issue is of special significance.
