President To Lam suggested that Vietnam and the UK increase delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels; promote cooperation in security and defense; and facilitate trade and investment cooperation.

On the afternoon of July 17, at the Presidential Palace, President To Lam received Mr. Iain Frew, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Vietnam.
At the reception, President To Lam expressed his satisfaction with the increasingly effective and extensive development of the Vietnam-UK Strategic Partnership.
In the context of Vietnam attaching importance to strengthening relations with the UK, a country with an important voice in the world and implementing many policies to enhance cooperation with the region in general and with Vietnam in particular, the two countries regularly exchange high-level delegations and ministries, sectors and localities; effectively build and implement cooperation mechanisms in a range of fields such as politics-diplomacy, economics, security-defense; closely coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums and international organizations.
President To Lam assessed that trade and investment cooperation, a key area in bilateral relations, has achieved positive growth under the impact of the Vietnam-UK Free Trade Agreement.
The UK’s participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) will contribute to opening up new momentum for trade and investment cooperation between the two countries. In the context of Vietnam being the coordinator of ASEAN-UK relations, Vietnam will actively support and promote cooperation between the UK and the region.

In order to promote the good foundation of cooperation between Vietnam and the UK in the coming time, President To Lam suggested that the two sides increase delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels; promote cooperation in security and defense; facilitate trade and investment cooperation activities between businesses of the two countries; and request that the UK, in its role as the coordinator of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) between Vietnam and the G7 Group, continue to actively support Vietnam in accessing financial resources, transferring technology, and developing human resources to realize the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
President To Lam highly appreciated the good results of cooperation between the two countries in the field of education and training, with an increasing number of Vietnamese students studying in the UK and many cooperation programs between universities and educational institutions of the two countries. He also hoped that the two sides would continue to carry out rich and diverse cooperation activities in culture, tourism and sports to enhance mutual understanding, contributing to promoting friendship and cooperation in general.
Expressing his gratitude to President To Lam for taking the time to meet him, Ambassador Iain Frew affirmed that the new British Government will continue the foreign policies of the previous Government, focusing on the Indo-Pacific region, prioritizing promoting relations with the ASEAN region and the strategic partnership with Vietnam.
Ambassador Iain Frew expressed his impression of Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements and role in the region and the world, as well as his confidence in the prospects of cooperation between the two countries.

Sharing the assessments and opinions of President To Lam, Ambassador Iain Frew affirmed that the UK will continue to accompany and support Vietnam in sustainable development, especially in priority areas of cooperation between the two countries and at the same time areas where the UK has strengths such as education and training, finance, energy transition, etc.
Ambassador Iain Frew emphasized that the UK is committed to and wishes to cooperate closely with Vietnam to address common challenges, especially in responding to climate change; and is ready to share experiences with Vietnam within the framework of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
Regarding cooperation at multilateral and regional forums, Ambassador Iain Frew shared Vietnam's viewpoint on resolving international and regional issues in the spirit of respecting international law, the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, and the 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea, thereby contributing to ensuring a peaceful, stable and developing environment for countries in the international community.
Ambassador Iain Frew thanked and hoped that the President and Vietnamese ministries, branches and localities would continue to create favorable conditions and closely coordinate to support the Ambassador in fulfilling his duties, contributing to promoting the relationship between the two countries in depth and effectively./.
