President attends UNESCO recognition ceremony for Cham pottery art

On the evening of June 15, the ceremony to receive the UNESCO Certificate inscribing "Cham pottery art on the List of intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent safeguarding" and the opening of the Ninh Thuan Grape - Wine Festival 2023 took place solemnly at 16-4 Square, Phan Rang - Thap Cham city, Ninh Thuan province.

Attending the event were President Vo Van Thuong; Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Nguyen Trong Nghia; Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, and leaders of a number of ministries, branches and localities in the region.

In addition to the expectation of spreading widely domestically and internationally, the ceremony is also held to raise awareness and responsibility of people, levels, sectors and localities in the work of preserving and promoting the value of intangible cultural heritage "Cham pottery art" in the coming time.

For the Ninh Thuan Grape - Wine Festival, held every two years, this is an opportunity to introduce the province's unique and special products, contributing to promoting tourism development, honoring the economic values ​​that grapes bring to the locality, highlighting the characteristics of Ninh Thuan grapes.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized that UNESCO's inscription of "Cham pottery art" into the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding is an affirmation of Vietnam's national cultural identity in the World Cultural Heritage, highlighting the role of women in modern society. The Cham pottery art and cultural heritage has now become a common asset of humanity.

With the spirit of hard work and constant creativity of Ninh Thuan people, many grape varieties have been successfully grown, with high productivity and economic efficiency; becoming places that attract tourists to experience. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the Grape - Wine Festival is an opportunity to honor farmers, businessmen, scientists; at the same time, it is also an opportunity to exchange, share cooperation opportunities, promote and bring Ninh Thuan grape - wine brand to domestic and international markets; over time, it will become a cultural feature of Ninh Thuan land and people.

The Deputy Prime Minister suggested that Ninh Thuan urgently form green energy industrial ecosystems; develop modern rural ecological agriculture, smart farmers; proactively adapt to the increasingly severe impacts of climate change. At the same time, it is necessary to take care of education and training, develop high-quality human resources to take the lead in the new wave of investment in line with the trend of green transformation, digital transformation of knowledge-based economy, circular economy, and the priority development orientation of the locality. In particular, Ninh Thuan must position its unique and special cultural values, as a foundation to arouse pride, love for the homeland, and the desire to contribute in each citizen, becoming an important driving force to promote local growth.

The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Ninh Thuan province need to have more specific and practical plans in preserving, conserving, reviving and promoting tangible and intangible cultural values; improving the material and spiritual life of the people, creating a cultural environment in the community, especially in the family cultural space and cyberspace.

Along with that, all levels, sectors and the whole society need to join hands to preserve and conserve cultural heritages recognized by UNESCO, preserve cultural heritage relics that have been listed so that good traditional cultural values ​​always accompany every step of the nation's development; contribute to and enrich world culture.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha also respectfully thanked international friends for their valuable cooperation and assistance to Vietnam so that Vietnam's traditional cultural values ​​can be preserved and increasingly spread widely, blending with the flow of the quintessence of human culture.

According to the program, the Ceremony to receive the UNESCO Certificate inscribed "Cham pottery art on the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding" and the Ninh Thuan Grape - Wine Festival 2023 will take place from June 13 to June 18 with 12 very unique, attractive, large-scale provincial-level activities on culture, sports and tourism and many other response activities from districts and cities in Ninh Thuan province.

* Earlier in the afternoon of the same day, President Vo Van Thuong visited and met with artisans and people of Bau Truc Pottery Village, Phuoc Dan Town, Ninh Phuoc District - one of the oldest craft villages in Southeast Asia.

The President visited Bau Truc Pottery Exhibition House in Bau Truc village, heard about unique pottery products as well as the pottery making tradition of the local people.

Meeting and talking with the people of Bau Truc pottery village, the President encouraged and inquired about the people's lives, output products, and income; hoping that they would continue to preserve and promote their unique cultural identity, especially the preservation and promotion of the values ​​of Cham pottery, thereby contributing to affirming the traditional cultural values ​​of the nation.

Bau Truc Village, called Palei Hamu Craok in Cham, consists of two neighborhoods, Bau Truc and neighborhood 12, with 1,286 households and 5,871 people who are involved in the traditional pottery craft passed down from mother to son. Bau Truc is the only pottery village in Vietnam where artisans use only their talented hands to create terracotta products. Bau Truc Pottery Village artisans can make hundreds of types of products according to market demand. This is also a place that attracts many domestic and foreign tourists to visit, shop and experience the art of handmade pottery.
