" I would like to send my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the traffic accident involving members of HAGL Club ," FIFA President Gianni Infantino shared on social media.

"Please offer our thoughts and prayers to those who died, those affected by this tragic accident, as well as the Vietnam Football Federation, the coaching staff and players of HAGL during this difficult time ," Infantino wrote.

On the afternoon of August 12, after the match with SLNA, a car carrying 4 HAGL members from Buon Ma Thuot city (Dak Lak) to Pleiku (Gia Lai) met with an accident on National Highway 14, passing through Ia Hru commune, Chu Puh district, Gia Lai.

According to initial investigation, the dump truck with license plate 81H-027.60 driven by Dinh Tien Binh overtook the car carrying HAGL members. After detecting a car going in the opposite direction, driver Binh swerved, crashed into the left side of the car and caused the accident.

The incident resulted in the deaths of coach Duong Minh Ninh, foreign player Paollo Madeira Oliveira and doctor Dao Trong Tri. Driver Nguyen Tu Sinh escaped death and was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment. He is now out of danger and in stable health.

HAGL Club arranged staff to assist the victim's family with the funeral arrangements. Meanwhile, Paollo's body was placed at the funeral home of Hoang Anh Gia Lai Medical Hospital. The mountain town football team booked a flight ticket for Paollo's mother from Portugal to Vietnam today, August 14. Mr. Doan Nguyen Duc (Bau Duc) was on duty, directing and participating in the funeral arrangements for the 3 members of HAGL Club.

The Vietnam Football Federation, teams, coaches and players wrote letters of condolence and shared the loss with the victims' families and HAGL Club. VFF sent representatives to visit and support the victims' families. In addition, a silent ceremony was held at the beginning of each match in the domestic tournament system managed by VFF.

On the afternoon of August 13, the Investigation Police Agency of Gia Lai Province Police issued a decision to prosecute the case and prosecute the accused Dinh Tien Binh (born in 1987, residing in Nhon Hoa town, Chu Puh district, Gia Lai province) to investigate "Violating regulations on road traffic participation" under Article 260 of the Penal Code.
