Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said the new cabinet combines “innovation with seniority, experience with youth”, with women holding 12 of the 22 ministerial positions.
“The new government will be feminist, specifically with four female Deputy Prime Ministers and more female ministers than male,” the leader affirmed. The new government will also continue the same policies as before in economic areas, prioritizing social policies and especially policies and housing for young people.
Key positions remain unchanged, including Budget Minister Maria Jesus Montero, Defense Minister Margarita Robles and Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares. As for the new faces, Dr. Monica Garcia will take over as Health Minister, while Mr. Ernest Urtasun will become Culture Minister.
Earlier, in the National Assembly vote on November 16, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was re-elected for a new term with 179 votes in favor and 171 votes against. This result ended the long deadlock after the inconclusive general election in July this year.
