China Mobile talked up the prospects of two new consumer 5G services at the recent MWC Shanghai show.
China Mobile Launches New 5G Service for Users |
The first service is the cloud phone, which was launched by China Mobile last month. According to Li Bin, Vice President of China Mobile Internet, with the application of the operating system and processing all in the cloud, a device of several thousand yuan can also be comparable to a high-end phone.
The second service is a new take on VoNR (Voice over New Radio) on 5G networks, which will improve the voice calling experience. This feature will integrate other applications into a phone call, such as real-time translation or remote guidance. VoNR is backed by the GSM Association (GSMA) and two Chinese manufacturers.
The first trials took place in June and nationwide commercial deployment is expected by the end of this year, said Bian Yannan, deputy director of China Mobile's planning and construction department.
In addition to the two 5G services mentioned above, China Mobile will focus on deploying intelligent base stations for 5G private networks. In 2024, the company will also research and introduce emergency information services for the public, multicast data transmission, etc.
China Mobile has also recently joined the establishment of the Virtual Space Industry Alliance with 24 members, including AI video company iFlytek, Xiaomi and Huawei. The carrier also said that investment in virtual space will double in the next three years.
