Jogging is a sport loved by many people, but is jogging good in cold weather?
For many people, jogging and exercising early in the morning is a habit that is maintained quite regularly. In normal weather conditions, this is a good habit, helping people have the opportunity to do light exercise to create a feeling of comfort and relaxation to prepare for a new working day.
However, if you practice this habit in winter, especially on cold days when the outdoor temperature drops, it can easily lead to the risk of stroke and affect your health.
Sharing with PV Gia Dinh Viet Nam , Ths.BS Doan Du Manh - Member of Vietnam Vascular Disease Association, Deputy Director of Cardiovascular and Stroke Center, Phuong Dong General Hospital said that exercising and jogging are good ways to protect the body and improve resistance. However, exercising incorrectly can cause harm, even endanger health.
In particular, in recent times, Hanoi has been continuously "submerged" in fine dust, ranking first in the world in air pollution . Exercising in polluted air increases the risk of respiratory diseases and inhaling more polluted air.
Dr. Manh also added that, in addition to respiratory diseases, the cold season is also the time when the stroke rate increases by 20-30% compared to other seasons.
Especially in the elderly and those with underlying diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes or cardiovascular disease. Therefore, the cold season is always warned by doctors as the season when strokes are likely to occur.
"In cold weather conditions, improper exercise can cause stroke in all age groups," said Dr. Manh.
The doctor analyzed that in the early morning, the body is in a warm blanket but people go out in the cold to exercise with polluted air, leading to inhaling more toxic gases than usual, which can cause blood vessels to suddenly constrict, causing high blood pressure, increased cardiovascular events and strokes.
In particular, early morning is also the time when the body is in a resting state, blood is concentrated, if at this time blood pressure increases due to exposure to cold air, it will increase the risk of cerebral hemorrhage (cerebral hemorrhage) or thrombosis...
“With the current cold weather and air pollution, people should not jog or cycle outdoors, especially in the early morning and late afternoon because this is the coldest time and the most polluted air,” Dr. Manh advised.
Therefore, to ensure health on cold days, Dr. Manh recommends that people choose indoor sports instead. They should only exercise outdoors when the weather is warm and the air is fresh.
“Exercise is good for improving health, but we need to protect our bodies and not destroy our lungs and hearts because of polluted air,” the doctor advised.
In case you have to run outdoors, you need to wear warm clothes to ensure that your body does not catch a cold. Along with that, warm up thoroughly before going out and wear a mask to prevent fine dust.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on February 7, the weather in the North will be very cold; from the night of February 7, the weather in the North Central region will turn very cold, the area from Quang Binh to Hue will turn very cold, some places will be very cold.
The lowest temperature in this cold air mass in the North is generally from 9-12 degrees, in mountainous areas 5-8 degrees, and in high mountainous areas below 3 degrees.
