Owning a mutant starling farm considered the first and largest mutant starling farm in the West, young man Tran Huu Vinh (30 years old, residing in Tam Hiep commune, Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province) has an annual revenue of more than 3 billion VND.
Mr. Vinh's mutant starling farm is well invested. According to bird enthusiasts, this is one of the first and largest farms in the West with an area of over 1,500m2 .
Taking us on a tour of the mutant bird farm, he kept talking about the beauty of mutant starlings from their feather color, singing... with endless passion.
The ornamental birds being raised on the farm are all rare. The ornamental birds here cost tens of millions to hundreds of millions of dong each, making the ornamental bird enthusiasts fascinated.
Mr. Vinh has a bachelor's degree in construction, has a stable job, and a fairly high salary as a construction engineer in Ho Chi Minh City.
However, after a period of contact and learning about the bird-keeping movement, realizing that raising birds not only satisfied his passion but also brought in a high income, he decided to put his university degree aside, return to his hometown to start a business, and set up a bird farm in 2019.
"Raising mutant starlings is beneficial in both ways, from satisfying my passion to developing the economy and becoming my own boss, so I decided to quit my job, leave the city and return to my hometown to start this business. Realizing that the pet bird market is very interested in the color of the feathers and the singing, this is a very rare species, very difficult to find in the wild," said Vinh.

Mr. Tran Huu Vinh, Tam Hiep commune, Chau Thanh district (Tien Giang province) - a young pioneer in raising mutant starlings on a large scale in the West. He had a good job in the construction industry in Ho Chi Minh City, before quitting his job and returning to his hometown in Tien Giang to raise ornamental birds.
With a capital of more than 600 million VND saved after a period of saving, Mr. Vinh bought 20 breeding birds to raise and multiply the flock.
The bird breed he chose is a mutant bulbul, mainly birds with white or light yellow feathers, beautiful and valuable.
After 3 years of hunting and breeding, thanks to his hard work and self-study, he has collected and bred. He currently owns hundreds of rare mutant starlings of many different species such as albino starlings, white-gray, light-gray, Indo starlings, Indo hybrid albino...
All of the above mutated and expensive starling breeds are extremely rare. The total value of his mutated starling farm is estimated at more than 7 billion VND.

Many mutant starlings were collected, bred and successfully raised by Mr. Vinh in his bird farm in Tam Hiep commune, Chau Thanh district (Tien Giang province).
According to Mr. Vinh, bird enthusiasts are fascinated by mutant starlings because of their beautiful shape, strange feather color, and beautiful singing voice.
To evaluate the bird, we mainly rely on the color mutation, posture, singing... but the most important thing is the color of the feathers. Because the more beautiful, strange, rare the feather color, the higher the value of the bird.
Regarding bird cages, Mr. Vinh divided them into 2 types of cages made of steel mesh and bricks to raise adult and breeding birds.
"Bird cages, made of wire mesh, are used to raise adult birds or to raise birds at high density. The cage is placed in a cool, well-lit place. Inside the cage, there are food trays, water basins for the birds to bathe in, and horizontal and vertical perches for the birds to perch on.
"The brick cage, built into cells of 3.2m x 4m high, is used to raise starlings for breeding. It also has pre-made starling nests and cameras to monitor the breeding process," said Mr. Vinh.
Currently, Vinh’s farm has nearly 120 pairs of mutant starling parents breeding. Mutant starlings start breeding after 8-10 months. Each year, the pair lays 5-10 clutches, each clutch of 2-3 eggs.
Mr. Vinh revealed that the most important step in raising mutant starlings is to monitor the birds' reproduction to take care of the young. The birds only eat worms and bran, but because they are all high-quality foods, the price is also very high.
Every year, Mr. Vinh has to spend about half a billion VND on bird feeding. Currently, the price of mutant starlings at the farm ranges from 15-200 million VND/bird.
From selling breeding birds and baby birds, Mr. Vinh has a revenue of over 3 billion VND/year. In the near future, Mr. Vinh will continue to expand the scale, linking up to open small farms across the country to provide quality mutant starlings.
