(Dan Tri) - Although he was temporarily deferred from military service, the 18-year-old boy, who lost both his parents, wrote an application to join the military.

"When I was 5 years old, my mother got a serious illness and passed away. When I was 8 years old, my father also unfortunately passed away... I have completed high school and am 18 years old, the age when we young people want to contribute a part to our beloved Fatherland", young man Tran Phuc Trung (born 2006, Lang Thanh commune, Yen Thanh, Nghe An) wrote in his application to join the military service.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Vu, Commander of the Military Command of Lang Thanh Commune, confirmed that he had received the application for voluntary military service from citizen Tran Phuc Trung.

In 2025, Lang Thanh commune was assigned the target of recruiting 10 citizens to join the army. There were 3 citizens who volunteered to join the army, including citizen Tran Phuc Trung.

According to Mr. Vu, after reviewing the list of citizens of military service age in the area, the Commune Military Service Council decided to temporarily defer citizen Tran Phuc Trung due to family circumstances.

The Commune Military Service Council announced the postponement of the call-up and at the same time grasped the thoughts and wishes of citizen Tran Phuc Trung. At the meeting, the citizen expressed his wish to serve in the military for a limited period and wrote an application for enlistment. The Commune Military Service Council issued a call-up order for citizen Tran Phuc Trung to undergo a preliminary health examination.

"The fact that citizen Tran Phuc Trung, despite being temporarily deferred from military service, voluntarily registered for military service examination is very welcome," said the Head of the Military Command of Lang Thanh Commune.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Trung said that serving in the army is his personal wish. This young man himself is also very happy when his sisters and relatives in the family support and encourage him to join the military.

Trung said that after his parents passed away, he was sent to the SOS Children's Village in Vinh. Here, in addition to being cared for and taught by his mothers and uncles, he was trained in self-awareness and discipline, especially during the 3 years he spent in the youth dormitory of the SOS Children's Village.

After finishing high school, Trung did not register for university entrance exams but decided to leave SOS Children's Village and return to his hometown. This young man worked for a period of time as a worker in Bac Ninh before returning home and applying for military service.

Tran Phuc Trung believes that at any time and in any circumstance, every Vietnamese citizen must clearly define his or her responsibility for the cause of protecting the Fatherland. Besides, for someone in a situation like his, the military environment will be a place to train and quickly mature.

"While I was at SOS Children's Village, I also visited a military unit. I was impressed by the orderliness, discipline, strength and confidence of the soldiers who were only a few years older than me.

Joining the military is not only a responsibility and obligation, but it will also be a good environment for young people to improve themselves. I know that after completing the military service, they will also be supported to learn a trade or work abroad," Trung shared.

Trung is well aware that joining the army, of course, will have to go through a difficult and harsh training process, but with what he has learned and experienced in the SOS Children's Village environment, he is confident that he will complete his mission well.

Tran Phuc Trung and 35 citizens of Lang Thanh commune have completed the preliminary military service examination at the commune, meeting the standards and conditions to participate in the health examination at the district Military Service Examination Council.

In 2025, Nghe An province is assigned to select more than 3,000 citizens to join the army. At this time, localities in the province are conducting preliminary health examinations for military service for citizens of military age. The military handover ceremony in Nghe An province is expected to be held from February 13 to 15, 2025.
