Below is the story of Mr. Su (68 years old, China).

Lonely life in old age

I have lived in this old house for many years, my wife passed away long ago. I have two sons and a daughter who are all married and have moved out.

A few years ago, I was very healthy and could even travel around the country. As time passed and I got older, even climbing stairs became difficult. What was even more frightening was that I started to feel dizzy and lightheaded. I once fainted while cooking. Luckily, my daughter took me to the hospital and the doctor concluded that I did not have any serious illness but my blood pressure was a bit high.

But the dizziness came back from time to time. So it became more and more inconvenient for me to live alone. It was impossible to call my children to live in the old house. I also could not move to my youngest daughter's house, because my son-in-law had brought his mother there. If I were there, how would my children manage?

Then I asked my son for his opinion. My second brother objected, saying that he was busy with work recently and really didn't have time to take care of me, and there was no more room for me at home. My eldest son said that he was planning to have a second child, and there was no more room at home...

I had no choice, I couldn’t live with my three children, I thought about hiring a maid. But looking at my pension of more than 2,000 yuan (about 7 million VND) per month, I hesitated. Over the years, I had saved 60,000 yuan (about 210 million VND), this amount was only enough to cover my expenses.

If not, then go to a nursing home, I consoled myself like that. But I don't like sleeping with strangers, nor do I like living in a nursing home.

The question of who I would live with in my final years had become a major concern for me. People asked me if I would have to go to a nursing home. Thinking about this made me even more depressed.

No nursing home, no staying with children

One day, while watching short videos, I happened to see a news story about an old lady and a strange girl living together. The two signed an agreement that the girl would support the old lady until she passed away and the old lady would give her house to the girl. This was a good idea, and I immediately felt that I could do the same.

When I came up with the idea, I wanted to find someone who was willing to take care of an elderly person but it was not easy. After thinking about it, I realized that there was such a person beside me.

I have a nephew whose circumstances are very miserable. His parents are divorced. Every Tet holiday, I buy him lots of gifts because he is polite and well-behaved. But I haven't seen him for a long time, so I don't know how he is doing. After getting his number and contacting him, I learned that he is currently working as a security guard in a residential area.

Then I told him my idea. He would come and take care of me when I got old and I would give him the house. I also suggested that we should try living together for 3 months first, and then we would decide after a while.

My nephew doesn't know how to cook or keep clean. However, he is very hard-working and receptive. After a few days here, he expressed his desire to find a job. I contacted an old friend and arranged for him to work at a courier station near my house. Although the job is harder than security, the income is also better.

Since my nephew moved in, my life is no longer boring.

When I had time off, my nephew would go for a walk with me or play chess. They lived happily together. Everyone around me was suspicious when they saw a young man suddenly appear next to me, some even thought it was my son.

Gradually, my children also found out about his move. They were surprised but didn't say anything more. I also didn't tell them about my plans.

Three months passed, I felt very satisfied so I went to the notary office with my nephew and signed the agreement. After I left, the house was left to him to take care of.

Actually, my house is not worth much, if I sell it, it will be worth at most 300,000 NDT (about 1 billion VND). If I live another 10 years, spending this amount is not too much.

The somewhat "dramatic" ending

Later, my children quickly learned about the agreement I had signed with my nephew and came to my house to question him. They even chased him out of the house. When everyone was present, I declared: "This house is mine, I can do whatever I want. If you can't take care of me, I have to take care of myself for the rest of my life." Seeing that I didn't change my mind, my children had no choice but to accept it.

After everything was over, I went to comfort my nephew. I didn't expect that the boy would cry. I treated him sincerely and he was very good to me. Not long after, I fell ill again. When I was in the hospital, he was always by my bedside. When my children came to visit and saw this, they gradually felt reassured and had a different view of my nephew.

Up to now, I am satisfied with this method. I can rest assured that I will be able to retire without having to worry about depending on my children. At the same time, my family has a new member, we treat each other as well as blood relatives.
