(CLO) At least 10 elderly people were killed when a fire broke out at a nursing home in the town of Villafranca del Ebro, northern Spain, early on the morning of November 15.
Sharing with reporters, Mr. Fernando Beltran, a senior official of the national government in the region, said the fire originated in one of the rooms of the Jardines de Villafranca nursing home.
He added that all the victims were elderly residents of the nursing home. A spokesman for the regional government said the fire started at around 5 a.m. (11 a.m. Vietnam time) and took firefighters about two hours to extinguish.

According to local media, 82 people were in the house at the time of the fire. Mayor Volga Ramirez said two people were in critical condition and several were being treated, mostly for smoke inhalation. Ms. Ramirez said her husband helped evacuate the elderly.
A spokesman for the regional government said firefighters - who came from across Zaragoza, a city 35km away - were at the scene along with ambulances and police.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
