The bridge between Truong Ky village, Vinh Tu commune, Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province (commonly known as Truong Ky bridge) has been damaged and degraded for many years and is at high risk of collapse but has not been repaired to ensure traffic safety.

The bridge is located on the inter-commune road from Truong Ky to Duyet Ward, 13 m long, 1 span structure, 5 m wide, designed load capacity of 13 tons, slab bridge type. The bridge was built in 1982 so its current condition is very weak. According to the reporter's records, one side of the bridge railing has completely collapsed, the bridge surface is bent down causing water to accumulate, the bridge foundation is cracked and shows signs of subsidence.
The inter-commune route from Truong Ky to Duyet Ward is a frequent route for people from the four communes of Vinh Long, Vinh Chap, Vinh Thai and Vinh Tu, so the traffic volume is very high. Therefore, the deterioration of Truong Ky bridge, which has not been repaired in time, poses many potential risks of traffic accidents.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tam, a land official of Vinh Tu commune, said that the damaged bridge has been happening for about 2 years. On October 17, 2023, Vinh Tu commune People's Committee reported the damaged bridge to Vinh Linh district People's Committee and the district's Economic - Infrastructure Department.
“The current state of the bridge is very weak, the railings on both sides of the bridge have collapsed, which is very dangerous for people traveling on this route. If there are no measures to fix and prevent it, the bridge will collapse at any time,” the report stated.
According to Mr. Tam, while waiting for the Provincial People's Committee to allocate capital to repair or build a new bridge, the Vinh Linh District People's Committee has sent many official dispatches requesting the Commune People's Committee and Vinh Tu Commune Police to propagate and mobilize people to implement traffic safety issues. In addition, the authorities have put up signs limiting the load capacity because the bridge is weak to prevent the bridge from collapsing. However, the signs are only general warnings and do not have specific load capacity figures.
To ensure safety for people and vehicles, it is recommended that authorities soon have a plan and repair method and direct traffic regulation across the bridge.
