Sienna and Sierra Bernal (USA) hold the world record for "Twins with the biggest height difference", the older sister is 40cm taller than the younger sister.
Sienna Bernal and Sierra Bernal (26 years old, living in Texas, USA) are one of the most special twins in the world. Their faces have many similar features, but their height difference is up to 40cm. The Guinness World Records has awarded the record for "Twins with the biggest height difference" to them.
Sienna is a talented social activist who supports the disabled, despite being only 1.34m tall. Since birth, she has suffered from a rare and incurable disease that prevents her body from growing. According to researchers, only about 200 people in the world have this disease. Meanwhile, her older sister Sierra is 1.74m tall.
Their mother, Chrissy Bernal, gave birth to the girls prematurely on December 22, 1998. Sienna weighed less than 2 pounds at the time, while Sierra weighed 5 pounds. Doctors explained that a genetic change that occurred after the embryos had developed independently resulted in the twins looking similar but having major physical differences.
Sienna Bernal and Sierra Bernal are the twins with the biggest height difference in the world according to Guinness.
Prenatal ultrasounds revealed that Sienna had a hole in her heart and was diagnosed with a rare congenital disorder that affects brain development. After the twins were born, doctors determined that Sienna would not develop normally.
“The doctor said she had a hole in her heart and her lungs weren't fully developed yet ,” the mother recalled.
Sienna had to use a nasogastric tube to feed herself until she was 8 years old. After that, her family sought the advice of a geneticist and from then on, she began to live a normal, healthy life.
Sienna still lives with her parents in Texas. She and her mother work as social workers, advocating for projects to improve public infrastructure to make it more accessible to people with disabilities. Her older sister Sierra, a singer-songwriter, moved to Nashville to pursue her dreams.
"I find the Guinness World Record exciting. I was just living my life well and suddenly one day the record knocked on my door. I don't know if I deserve it or how long I can keep it, but it was a great experience," Sienna humorously shared.
