Can Tho expands fruit growing area for export

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City, with an area of ​​over 25,000 hectares, the city's annual fruit output is maintained at over 200,000 tons. Of which, many key fruits such as mango, durian, longan, and star apple have been regularly exported to international markets. Can Tho's fruits have entered demanding markets thanks to the application of sustainable farming processes, production according to VietGap standards; linking to create specialized growing areas to meet the requirements of importing countries on traceability and product quality.

In June and July, Can Tho exported mangoes and longans to the US and Australian markets by air. The export of the above shipments to demanding markets has affirmed the position of Can Tho's fruit industry.

According to Mr. Tran Thai Nghiem, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City, the area of ​​fruit trees in the city is constantly expanding, the value of the industry increases every year and makes an important contribution to the city's agricultural sector. In addition, the area of ​​fruit trees in Can Tho has also made an important contribution to the development of agricultural tourism in the area in recent times.

In order to develop the fruit industry, Can Tho will re-plan concentrated production areas according to intensive and specialized cultivation to issue growing area codes, support businesses in export, and link with traceability to serve export. At the same time, it will continue to expand the area of ​​fruit gardens according to the city's planning orientation.

Mr. Tran Thai Nghiem added: "In the future direction, the area of ​​fruit trees will be continuously expanded, all districts in Can Tho city as well as Phong Dien district and part of Thoi Lai district, Co Do district will form concentrated fruit tree areas. At the same time, in the districts, developing fruit trees will not only support the development of agricultural economy but also build an ecosystem to promote urban development".

According to the Department of Crop Production - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the area of ​​fruit trees in the Mekong Delta is about 370,000 hectares with many types of fruit trees of high economic value such as durian, mango, grapefruit, longan, star apple and many other types of fruit trees exported to markets such as China, the United States, Australia, the EU, Japan, Korea and many other countries. In the orientation of fruit tree export, many localities in the Mekong Delta will expand the area of ​​fruit trees, forming specialized areas connecting people, cooperatives and businesses to meet the standards and techniques of importing countries, aiming at sustainable development of the fruit tree industry.
