Asia-Pacific
* Cambodia pledged to maintain geopolitical neutrality , as Prime Minister Hun Manet spoke at the 20th anniversary of the country's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the morning of October 14. Accordingly, the Southeast Asian country's consistent policy is not to participate in any political mechanism to compete or confront another country or organization.
However, Prime Minister Hun Manet said that Cambodia will join an organization or mechanism with the common goal of maintaining peace, harmony, prosperity in the region, as well as promoting common development. (AKP)
* China conducts military exercises in the Taiwan Strait, aiming to test the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) multi-domain coordination capabilities and precision strikes on key targets.
The exercise, dubbed "Joint Sword-2024B," involved the Liaoning aircraft carrier strike group, fighter jets, bombers and other advanced combat aircraft. (CCTV)
* South Korea is "fully prepared" to respond to North Korea after Pyongyang ordered its border troops to prepare to fire in an escalating row over leaflet-dropping drones over the capital. The South Korean military said it was closely monitoring the situation for North Korea's response. (Yonhap)
* Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived in Islamabad , Pakistan, on October 14 to attend the 23rd meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries and pay an official visit to the South Asian country. (THX)
* South Korea and China held a “friendship forum” on October 17 in Beijing, with government officials and private sector experts from both sides participating, to discuss ways to strengthen ties and cooperation. (Yonhap)
* The defense ministers of South Korea, Japan, Australia and Zealand are scheduled to hold a rare meeting on the sidelines of a NATO defense ministers' meeting this week to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation with NATO amid deepening military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. (Yonhap)

* Germany hosts a summit with Balkan countries on October 14. Host Prime Minister Olaf Scholz will welcome the leaders of six countries: Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro and North Macedonia to the Berlin Process Summit aimed at building closer ties with the European Union (EU).
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, representatives from nine EU countries and international organizations are expected to attend the conference. (AFP)
* Britain marked a milestone in its journey to “reset” relations with the EU when Foreign Minister David Lammy decided to attend a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg. He noted: “The security of Britain and Europe is inseparable." (Reuters)
* NATO's large-scale nuclear exercise called Steadfast Noon, with the participation of 2,000 soldiers from 13 alliance countries and 60 military aircraft in Northern Europe from October 14.
The exercises, which will take place mainly in the UK, the North Sea region, as well as in Belgium and the Netherlands, will demonstrate to “any adversary” that NATO is ready to respond to any threat. (Sputnik)
* The Russian Pacific Fleet is paying a friendly visit to Malaysia , including the frigates Gromky, Rezky, Hero of Russia Aldar Tsydenzhapov and the logistics ship Pechenga. The Russian group of ships has anchored at the port of George Town, the administrative center of Penang Island, and will visit Malaysia until October 17. (TASS)
* Kiev destroyed the Tu-134 military aircraft in the early morning of October 13, at a military airport in the Orenburg region deep inside Russian territory, about 1,000 km from the border with Ukraine. (AFP)

Middle East-Africa
* Hezbollah’s attack on a military base in Haifa, northern Israel, on the night of October 13 was “heavy and painful,” according to the Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi. The attack left at least four soldiers dead. According to media reports, at least 60 people were injured. (Times of Israel)
* The United Nations (UN) has warned that Israel committed war crimes in Lebanon when Israeli tanks crashed through the main gate and entered the compound of the United Nations International Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). (UN)
* The United States will deploy a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system in Israel and send a US team to operate it to better protect its Middle Eastern ally from future missile attacks. However, US officials did not specify when the system would be deployed. (Reuters)
