How to control blood sugar for people without diabetes

Hyperglycemia is often associated with diabetes. But in some cases, people who do not have diabetes can also have high blood sugar. Non-diabetic hyperglycemia often occurs when a person experiences trauma or a stressful event, or if a person has insulin resistance or prediabetes. Some of the steps below can help prevent this condition.

Eat healthy, have a plan : A person who is diagnosed with non-diabetic hyperglycemia should see a nutritionist to develop a meal plan to lower blood sugar levels. A good diet for this condition is to increase the amount of green vegetables, whole grains, whole bran, reduce the amount of carbohydrates, limit fast food, high in saturated fat...

Exercise : Adults should spend at least 150 minutes doing physical activity each week. Moderate intensity exercises such as jogging and cycling help reduce blood sugar levels; keep blood sugar levels stable. Children should do at least 60 minutes of physical activity each week. Parents should limit children from sitting in one place for too long, avoid bad habits such as eating fast food, abusing carbonated drinks, and sugary drinks. Stabilizing blood sugar at a young age will be good for overall health when they grow up.

Limit or avoid alcohol : Men can have 2 drinks per day. Women should not drink more than 1 drink per day. This limit helps control blood sugar. Quitting alcohol and stimulants is good for overall health.

Maintain a healthy weight : Obesity increases the risk of high blood sugar. Therefore, a healthy weight is an important factor in reducing blood sugar. If you are overweight, plan to lose weight, keeping your weight stable helps reduce the risk of high blood sugar.

Don't smoke : Nicotine and other chemicals in cigarettes increase the risk of lung damage. These substances also cause blood sugar levels to rise and become difficult to control. Therefore, you should limit your exposure to areas with cigarette smoke, and quit smoking if you smoke.

Hyperglycemia in people without diabetes is quite similar to hyperglycemia in people with diabetes. Common symptoms include increased thirst, frequent urination, nausea, blurred vision or fatigue, unexplained weight loss, increased hunger... However, symptoms of hyperglycemia in people without diabetes are often vague, less noticeable and more difficult to recognize.

High blood sugar in people without diabetes can lead to a number of complications such as nerve damage, damage to arteries and blood vessels, increased risk of heart attack and stroke, and damage to the immune system which increases the risk of infection.

To treat this condition, your doctor may prescribe insulin or some form of medication to help balance your blood sugar levels. Treatment depends on the cause.
