In recent days, the issue of the quality of students' meals has attracted much attention. Many people wonder, with a price of 35,000 - 40,000 VND, what kind of meal is considered delicious and reasonable?
Tasteful and varied dishes
Phan Thao Anh, an 11th grader at Vo Van Kiet High School (District 8, Ho Chi Minh City) is satisfied with the quality of the school's lunches, which cost VND35,000. "The menu is quite diverse, with 5 dishes each day for students to choose from. We can eat rice with savory dishes such as braised pork with eggs, sweet and sour chicken... or with soups such as beef noodle soup, chicken pho, vermicelli with meatballs...", Thao Anh said.
The lunches are rated by students as complete, high quality, and tasty.

Le Truong Nhat Lam, an 11th grader at Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School (District 3), shared that she “likes school meals better than home-cooked meals”. The female student said that the school’s lunch has many dishes such as char siu rice, fried chicken rice, Thai vermicelli, chicken noodles, stir-fried beef noodles... priced from 35,000 - 40,000 VND. “I find this price quite ‘affordable’ because the portion is full and to my taste. However, to ‘hunt’ for dishes like Thai vermicelli, I have to go down to the cafeteria early because this dish is often ‘sold out’ at lunchtime”, Lam shared.
With the school’s lunch menu, Nguyen Vu Hong An, a student at Trung Vuong High School (District 1), said that each meal is full of savory dishes, stir-fried dishes, soups and desserts. “The menu changes weekly, so we don’t have to eat the same dishes over and over again, and the portions are just enough for me and my female friends. The male friends who have a bigger appetite can ask for more rice and food,” the female student said.
The boarding meals of Tay Thanh High School (Tan Phu District) were "flexed" by students on the student forum.

“Students' opinions are very important”
Focusing on the quality of meals, the cafeteria of Vo Van Kiet High School has created a boarding menu that emphasizes nutrition and limits the duplication of dishes in a week. Understanding the psychology and preferences of young people, the cafeteria has included dishes such as vermicelli with fermented shrimp paste, Korean mixed rice, etc.
Ms. Tran Le Hai Yen, cafeteria manager of Vo Van Kiet High School, said that despite the market fluctuations, the cafeteria still maintains the same price and quality of meals for students. “The kitchen still maintains the source of food, vegetables, as well as the quantity and portion of each meal to ensure quality for the students,” the manager shared.

To collect feedback on the lunch meals, the Vo Van Kiet High School cafeteria has created an anonymous link for students to easily contribute. “Whenever I receive negative feedback about the cafeteria, I always directly handle it and ensure that the problem does not recur. The school board and teachers also regularly monitor the cafeteria to ensure the quality of meals for the students,” Ms. Hai Yen informed.
The vice principal of a high school in District 3 said that to monitor the quality of the cafeteria and kitchen and ensure food hygiene and safety, the school needs to conduct regular inspections and supervision, and must also strictly control the origin of the food. The cafeteria needs to publicize the list of food inputs, the expiration date of ingredients, and ensure that employees undergo regular health checks.
“It is important to collect students’ opinions about meals because they are the ones who directly experience them. The school often organizes dialogues between students and the school board to listen to their opinions and contributions. In addition, students can directly report problems to their homeroom teachers so that they can forward them to the school board for handling,” said the vice principal.
